Hijab – the Islamic dress code: its historical development, evidence from sacred sources and views of selected Muslim scholars - Medievalists.net
The issue of a Muslim woman's dress code has been debated for centuries. This is of great importance as it is widely used as a criterion to measure the extent of a woman's piety or devotion to Allah.www.medievalists.net

Fr, this is no gheerah this is controlYour dad is actually doing too much![]()
Tell your dad that it’s not mentioned in the Quran or anywhere in fact maybe that will make him back off. Modesty is a journey doing this will push young girls away from wanting to dress modestly.Fr, this is no gheerah this is controlI don't mind forced hijab anymore but black abaya??
You're not letting me breathe my style is part of my personality why u not allowing individuality?? Black abayas are not the only way to be modest! I love to express myself i want to wear colors it's not bad but they are acting like it's a major sin when black abaya is not even mentioned in
the quran..
am born and living in UK my dad thinks we are living in Yemen because he always tells me go wear black plain abaya he's always been like this what do I expect from a country that is a niqab majority my dad told my mum to wear niqab after marrying her before she just used to wear hijabDid u guys live in the middle east or something? Somalis tend to like wearing different colors. Has ur dad always been like this? If ur mom is fine with u wearing colors and dresses how about u put ur foot down
If I tell him that then it will just result in a shouting match he's salafi he loves hadiths strictly like my somali cousin that is from uae she loves to travel she is a grown woman so she travels alone my dad judged her to my mum saying why does she travel alone? where is her mahram?Tell your dad that it’s not mentioned in the Quran or anywhere in fact maybe that will make him back off. Icl i aint seen no somali household like yours. Thats crazy subhanallah is this normal in yemeni households??If I tell him that then it will just result in a shouting match he's salafi he loves hadiths strictly like my somali cousin that is from uae she loves to travel she is a grown woman so she travels alone my dad judged her to my mum saying why does she travel alone? where is her mahram?
yes because many yemenis are ultra conservative strict about following hadiths and traditional like saying women are supposed to be staying at home etc my somali family aren't like this thoIcl i aint seen no somali household like yours. Thats crazy subhanallah is this normal in yemeni households??
Ooh okay this makes sense. Ur dad is yemeni and ur mom grew up in an arab country. Well just know tht dressing in different colors isnt haram so ur not doing anything wrong. Sucks ur mom cant back u up. Idk how old u are but if u ever leave ur home or marry a regular somali guy u can wear any color tht u wantam born and living in UK my dad thinks we are living in Yemen because he always tells me go wear black plain abaya he's always been like this what do I expect from a country that is a niqab majority my dad told my mum to wear niqab after marrying her before she just used to wear hijab
Yes this is why I like my Somali side they are not extremist I know yes there can be Somali extremists but generally I never seen Somali girl here in UK Somali hijabi wearing plain black abaya. Although my mum is fine with colorful abayas she still believes colorful abayas are wrong and black is pure this is what her mindset has been because she was raised in uae as a somali n lived sometime in yemen, one time she told me I hope your dad catches you :/
am 20 now loll tbh this is why i never want to marry a yemeni man after what my dad did its normal for most of them to lie having second wife back in their home country n ofc the very strict aspect controlling the woman must wear black abaya, niqab etc when i see that the hijab is enough and wearing colorful abaya/modest dressesOoh okay this makes sense. Ur dad is yemeni and ur mom grew up in an arab country. Well just know tht dressing in different colors isnt haram so ur not doing anything wrong. Sucks ur mom cant back u up. Idk how old u are but if u ever leave ur home or marry a regular somali guy u can wear any color tht u wantif u have somali relatives in the uk tht can talk to ur parents try tht.
i think arab culture is like that sometimes. But even then is it not becoming secular? Somali households let you wear any colour and its actually encouraged to wear different patterns as well however a lot of the older generation find trousers to be immodest and thats where the freedom to wear your clothing technically ends for a lot of women.yes because many yemenis are ultra conservative strict about following hadiths and traditional like saying women are supposed to be staying at home etc my somali family aren't like this tho
yes secular like uae now emarati girls wear colorful abayas, if they wear black abayas it has beautiful designs my dad says haraaammm this is all haram! jokes on him one of my aunties in uae from my dad's side wears colorful abaya and black abaya with designs he gets angry and got angry when he saw that she doesn't fully cover her hair with hijab cuz most emarati girls like to show their hair. For yemen tho its plain black abaya and niqab at most*i think arab culture is like that sometimes. But even then is it not becoming secular? however this is not all households and many vary. Also it seems as though your mum suffers from self hate. We have so much colour and difference in clothing within our culture
Yemen is a different beast, as the fobs say "not easyi think arab culture is like that sometimes. But even then is it not becoming secular? Also i agree about the self hate part i would say she has some to a certain level because she defends somalia when my dad says its a poor country. Like for example my mum doesn't friend somalis her friends are mostly arabs ok i understand she relates with arabs cuz she was raised in their country but its a bit too much she even said somalis in somalia their mindest is weird?? what does that even mean bruh idk!i think arab culture is like that sometimes.
