Being Somali in the 2000s

Aegon

The Conqueror, King of all Westeros
-Racism and xenophobia towards you from every direction. (caadan, arabs, asians, blacks)
-Somalia and Somali being literally almost finished. No representation in media like we have now with even most popular scandi rappers, canada rappers, uk rappers being somali. Models, actors, we have a lot now
-Jokes about our facial features.
-Some kids in that era were even forced to say they wasn’t Somali to not get bullied.

Somali now : everywhere on social medias, ajnabi who compliment our face, being shaming online by some fuckings gen z who only want 1k views

I was more into the first opinion

How was your experience?, I'm talking about the kids that parents arrived after 91 and were the first to grew up in qurbaha, how was it for you, Especially if you were raised like in somali area? I wonder how it was for someone that lived in minneapolis for an example that probably had thousands of somalis even those early years, How did it feel with the racism and xenophobia towards you from every direction. Somalia being literally almost finished. No representation in media like we have now with even most popular scandi rappers, canada rappers, uk rappers being somali. Models, actors, we have a lot now

I lived in the 00s in North America and I had no issues. Life was good prior to social media and being lesser known was far better.

i used to go to blm protests. idk about you, but it was during the height of george Floyd. alx i got paid by my job to do it tho. In retrospect, now that i am politically concious, and am a far right conservative, i truly deeply regret it, and keep it a secret from my peers, but hey at least i got paid.

The years don't matter, the life in those years do

What do you mean? US Somalis don't even interact with other groups like that. How many times have I seen Somali-only friend groups, neighborhoods, etc. My point is, we mostly keep to ourselves.
