Being Somali in the 2000s

-Racism and xenophobia towards you from every direction. (caadan, arabs, asians, blacks)
-Somalia and Somali being literally almost finished. No representation in media like we have now with even most popular scandi rappers, canada rappers, uk rappers being somali. Models, actors, we have a lot now
-Jokes about our facial features.
-Some kids in that era were even forced to say they wasn’t Somali to not get bullied.

Somali now : everywhere on social medias, ajnabi who compliment our face, being shaming online by some fuckings gen z who only want 1k views

I was more into the first opinion
Somalis never experienced bullying in uk wtf are you talking about.

Growing up in 2000s London was crazy, there was a time when β€œ Somalian” was used as an insult. Somali boys formed gangs to protect themselves especially from racist M.adoows and cadans. When I was younger I used to wonder why Somali gangs were so violent, but I understand now. Imagine living in a deprived area where you don’t fit in socially and culturally and to make it worse other gangs would attack you if you were weak. Naturally Somali boys would group together and form gangs .

I grew up in SE London where west africans , Jamaicans etc and cadans had their own gangs, at first Somalis were looked down upon because we were different but because Somali gangs were ruthless and heavy in the drugs world people started respecting Somalis. This is the early to late 2000’s I’m talking about. If one Somali boys was attacked , 100 Somali boys would take revenge , there were beatings , stabbings regularly. I remember a 15 year old Somali boy in my neighborhood was beaten and robbed by a m.adow guy. The robber was beaten so badly by the Somali boys he was in a coma for weeks.

Nabad wallaho, many BLM sellout naive dumb self hating Soomaalida including madows (mainly Jamaicans and WA) would try so hard to deny it by saying its post code related rather admit it was ethnic conflcit between Somali muslim youth vs gaal madow youth in late 90's and early 2000's.
