Begging culture.

It’s genuinely amusing how upset some of you get when I simply point out facts , like the reality of gang-style begging in Addis Ababa. That observation alone has led you to spiral into fantasies in retaliation.

Watch this video, this is the most glaring thing that shows the dissonance and disconnect between the vanity project called Bole road and actual development . He says it looks organized , clean and developed but he is immediately hit with the opposite reality when there is a kid begging him for money and another begging him for food.

The theft and widespread pick pocketing he talks about in the beginning is linked to this desperation.
You see people in the Ethiopian subreddit talk about it a lot

.What I mentioned about Ethiopian beggars in the quote above isn’t just true inside Addis , they’re being exported into Somalia as well.

What you said about Mogadishu doesn’t align with reality. People walk freely through its shopping areas and restaurants , no gangs of beggars following them, no aggressive vendors, no pickpocket mobs. Just look at the countless vlogs and walk-throughs on YouTube.

There aren’t scammers or hagglers swarming visitors. In fact, Reddit posts and visitor reviews consistently point out how calm, low-key, and respectful the atmosphere is , especially compared to other regional capitals.

Somalis don’t beg strangers in Somalia or abroad because they have an extended safety net, family, community, and social bonds. That’s why Somali homelessness is rare in the diaspora. And when it does happen, it’s often due to someone being disconnected from their family, and even then, random Somalis will step in to help.

Even in places like Eastleigh, the majority of beggars aren’t Somali. They gather in Somali areas because Somalis are known to be more generous toward them than their own communities.

I need more discipline from you. You're starting to write like caanoshaah in terms of sentence structure. We need to fix that. Can't let you turn out like that rogue aunty waalan.

'95. I'm the perfect generation (mid-90s born), the sweet spot, for real. You missed out.

Seriously, cleanliness, discipline, and cooking are important skills you need. If you can't do any of that, good luck. You're soon to be an adult, build up your skills, speak properly, be regal, like a woman I used to deal with used to say, be demure. And don't bring shame to your father. Then maybe, we can have something dignified out of you.:ehh:

But hey, if you wanna be some creature out of a Tyler Perry movie, then do you. I'm just telling you, the future is in your hands, kid.

Damn, May 13th 1995. We is peers. I agree. We got the best of both worlds. Not full on digital freaks of nature but much more savvy than older millennials and such cos the internet really took off when we were 12-14 ish. But that still gave us time to form early social skills in a largely pre-internet world.

These skippers will never know what it is to play snake on their mama or papa's phone or not know who the f*ck was on the other side of a landline call without picking it up. What a sad existence.

A simple "yes" suffices.

Also, quit calling grown men "boy," it's obnoxious and very Tyler Perry creature language. Address people right, not like a lady of the night from Atlanta. Speak like you were raised correctly, kid.

A woman I dated did that years ago, I told her that if she ever did that again, we would stop talking. She corrected herself and never used it again because I was not having such disrespectful language around my presence, no matter the intention.

Basically, when you speak like that around men who respect themselves, they will put you in a certain category, and you will be viewed as lesser, which is justified. I'm letting you know now, since there are people who bring their bad manners into their adulthood and wonder why they can't get decent husbands.

But I have faith in you, kid. I really do.

I’m currently in Mog and outside of any shop, restaurant, bank, mall, etc there are people waiting. I was at Hamarwayne and people kept following me into stores begging for money, the store owners didn’t even ask them to leave. At the end I got on a Tuktuk and left.

5th May here.

These kids will never know what it is like to stay outside and sweat all day. These teenyboppers will never know what it is like to guess where your friends are hanging out, cycling through the usual spots when you find out they are not at home, and you can't call them because you have no phone (pre-smartphone days). And you only had to do that because you were denied the chance since the man of the house said you had to do some type of activity with him, fixing cars or some errand and only let you out an hour after.

Games were even sweeter. You played for less hours, but when you played for max 2 hours a day, it was amazing. Especially when you had friends over or just played with your sibling. Or when we used to sleep over a family friend's house and play all night, jumping the trampoline, doing flips.

We made friends, talked to people. In my town, everybody knew my name too early, to be honest. Kids I never met from other schools were hollering my name on sight which would make me uncomfortable since I was a part-time G, and on some, don't talk to me unless you know me, son, energy, but let me grace you with an undervalued greeting since you're eager. My reputation preceded me. It had to be that I was strong, cool, and handsome. Or maybe because I was a solid dude. It is what it is.

I can talk all day, and these E-kids that are wired to ChatGPT will never know. The thing of sitting in a bus stop and striking up a chat with the person next to you since no one had a smartphone.

Where you had to develop good social skills, the gift of gab, charisma to get around and have a life. It was all so automatic, but it was skills we grew. These days kids struggle with these things and it is because of how that old fabric is gone.

Lmao, this guy is cool in the kids' world today:

Back in the day, dudes would have stuffed this guy in the locker. He'd have no chance. Now such guys are what kids watch. LMAO. Nowadays, you need to befriend one of these nerdy Jewish-looking dudes to have your back in case of a controversy. Hahahaha. How they world has changed.

Cool story. Write it in your watpad journal, next time.

That's different. People are struggling in those places. Don't judge them and just keep it pushing.

I remember some Ethiopian man begging a cyclist for money, then out of nowhere, he threatened to throw stones at him when he was respectfully denied. That was some treacherous activity if I ever saw one. Let me get the footage.

No. You're like this in real life. People who have an image to protect in real life are mindful of their engagement, weather it be online or offline.

You conflated this with freedom of speech. You really are a dingbat.
