They ain’t talking about Islam but backward cultural practices in Somalia.

Such as a qabiil taking cash payments to settle rape cases instead of justice for the victims.

Or about how a woman who wears a hijab instead of a jilbaab will get abused in the streets of nearly every Somali city.

Don’t make this about Islam or attempt to insert your political biases into a piece of journalism @AMusee

Absolutely disgusting.

Your Somali sisters are suffering, of course the brain dead Abdi's are more enraged by the truth of sexism coming out than the actual abuse of women!
Shes speaking the truth our sisters back home arent safe from male harassment and rape is rarely persecuted. I cant believe I am on the same side as @Periplus but this report was nothing but the truth.

Why do online Islamists pretend every organic social justice movement is a nefarious Western plot to upend Islamic culture?
Because it's their only way of painting a big bad bogeyman (the west) instead of actually talking about the backwards ideas of which some have got nothing to do with the deen. It's such a cop out. Instead of improving lives just point to scriptures some of which have no place in modern society and shout haraaaaaaaam.

This is probably why sexism against women in Eastern countries will always be an issue. Any woman or people that talk about it will be accused of feminism or Westernization. Its incredibly disingenuous and dehumanising.

Anyone with eyes and ears can see that misogyny is rife in Somali culture. It is obviously not as bad as Afghanistan ect, but we still have issues like any poor Eastern country.

The makers of this video have no intention of helping this girl, they are exploitative in nature and want to portray us in a negative light.

Ayo leave my boy alone.

I get where he is coming from, the BBC do like to go around to every country and go “look how much worse it is there than the UK”.

Im sure @karkaar doesnt disagree with the sister’s experience. Can’t say the same for the Kremlin correspondent @AMusee tho.

Definitely the BBC and a lot of Western journalists have an agenda and I used to be the first to point it out. Howevever, now I don't care whatsoever. If Somalis and other Muslims really valued their rep or the so called 'agenda' they wouldn't have foreign gaals noticing how badly their women are mistreated.

The status of women is only discussed when a damming documentary or article comes out. Other times, the men seem perfectly content, so why should we Muslim women even care anymore? Also, as Muslims why should we care what they think anyway? Surely, the situations which are unfortunately common should take precedent.
