I agree that black is a social construct, but it's one that will impact you based on how you are perceived. What I'm getting at, is that you're better off not being naive in thinking people won't think you're black and be confused. As for Berbers, the North Africans are probably considered white because of their lighter skins. Us Somalis and other Horn Africans have Nilo-Saharan DNA within us that's absent in Berber people. As a result, they are on average, not as dark as us. Which is why they're not considered black. I'm not ignorant in knowing that the population that arrived in America due to slavery is not a population that we are related to genetically or linguistically. But society in the West will never care enough to do research to understand this fact. They're simply too ignorant about Africa in the US.

American racial classifications are beyond brain dead. They don’t even give a separate ethnicity to an important group there, African/Black Americans. It’s idiocracy that they get grouped in with everyone else. It seems like the U.S wants to erase them.
They consider Arabs white… which is stupid. Meaning Sudanese are considered white in the U.S census.
