bad idea to run as a female in a mostly somali neighborhood?

I always enjoyed track and field and this summer is my chance to start running but the issue is my community is majority somali so I feel like I am gonna get a lot of stares and there's always groups of somali dudes huddled together and they always make me nervous even walking towards them my heart starts to pound fast

I barely see any Somali women/girls doing any kind of excercising outside and maybe it's because of the stigma around women and sports. But working out should be encourage to somali women

if faraxs can go from lugoo baasto to farax hercules, we shouldn't let anything stop us from prioritizing our health and well being.

I don't think you can really run in baati/abaya so best chance is I have to wear surwaal but somalis have some issue with women and pants

If its gonna improve your health deffo bilaab walaal. Running in a community that is not accustomed to women running may pose a problem. I'd encourage you to do it a closeby cadaan area or a female gym to circumvent any issues

Just do it, who gives a f*ck about some random habaryars who have nothing better in their lives to hate on a woman doing what’s best for herself.

If you wear modest clothing generally, then there are modest exercising options.

If you’re still uncomfortable about running in public, I would suggest buying a second hand treadmill or getting a female-only gym membership.

But congrats to you for wanting to exercise.

Actually you are right. There needs to be a change in attitude, why is it an issue for a woman to run in somali/Muslim area. There are pioneers in aspect of life fr

I agree. i think they need the shock to see a woman in pants running so that it can be more acceptable in the future and so that future somali girls are able to exercise publicly without the shame @Encroacher

"bad idea to run as a female in a mostly somali..."
