Jobs will just change. People will be needed for at least another 50 years. Don't believe the automation hype.
A lot less people will be needed though so most people will probably be on some sort of welfare
Somalis are ahead of the curve I guess :trumpsmirk:

Question - Do you think computers will be able to automate creativity?

Eventually yes. There are two stages left in the development of artificial intelligence. The first is AGI, or human level intelligence, the second is Superintelligence. I think any human level AI should be able to think creatively and create art.

If you've been following AI and Machine Learning you'll know that a sophisticated AI computer calle AlphaGo beat the world's best player. It was unprecedented in two ways, one Go is an incredibly complex East Asian boardgame that relies on long-term strategic thinking. It is easy to learn but incredibly hard to master. AlphaGo beating a human isn't exceptional, it's able to compute in orders of magnitude outside the capability of any human brain. The interesting thing was it's ability to learn and beat it's opponent in new and novel ways that hadn't occured to it's human opponent.

I also think it's a dangerous path mankind is taking in developing these technologies without a failsafe.

The jobs of the future will be of worse quality and there won't be enough of them to employ the majority of people.

The jobs available for people will be simpler tasks that would be monetarily infeasible for an AI machine to do. All the highly cognitive work will be done by AI.

And forget about your eugenics scheme to raise people's IQ. Even a person with a 160+ IQ wouldn't be able to compete with the AI that exist right now, let alone the future.

Actually jobs have become progressively ''better''. Automation and machinery have made jobs less boring and backbreaking. This trend will continue.

Also, don't underestimate the power government has in creating ''make-work'' jobs and incentivize businesses to create these as well through regulation.

People with too much time on their hands will overthrow the government and start revolutions. UBI is a ridiculous idea.

Western governments will probably go the make-work route over UBI.

Survival of the fittest.

I don't want any government handouts for those who got outsmarted by a machine. They are the weakest link.

This isn't he same as before. The automation of the past took care of repetitive low skilled work whole leaving the more complex problem solving work to humans. Once AI is able to do these complex tasks better than humans then will be nothing left for humans to do.

Why would businesses create "make-work" jobs when robots will be able to do the same tasks faster and more importantly cheaper than a human? Even the smart ones will not be needed.

Society will be divided between the wealthy owners of AI and the poor masses. The entire economic system will have to be completely changed to deal with this massive inequality.

How is a country like China going to stay authoritarian with 1.2 billion unemployed people? There will be revolutions.

You really think those governments will let everyone slack off and risk being overthrown?

Governments will either adapt and change their entire economic and political systems or they will be overthrown through revolution.

It is inevitable.
