same reason an austrlian aborigines or a dark skinned philipino is not considered black. the word is reserved for darker people of the african continent and their descendants in the caribbean, europe and the americas.

No one was saying it was simply skin based. Just that skin is the most readily available identifier.

Look. I'm a relatively dark dude with incredibly straight hair myself. Arguably just as straight as that dude. But my lips, nose, eyes, and muscular structure? Just not that different from other Africans by and large. And white people here obviously see that and once you say you're Somali, it's easier for them to slot you into a race bubble that best fits your situation. And in that instance Black is the winning ticket.

So the terminology obviously doesn't mean shit to people who don't live in NA or UK.

i've read plenty of your posts. and even in this very thread, are you really going to tell me you don't think your superior? . obvious your not african american, you're fucking somali..both those things are ethnicities. "black" is a race. if your buddies told you they don't think your black, then what do they consider you to be brown? an other? white?

It is about a collective experience shared by a group of people who have been stripped of their heritage and names as well as their religion and having to deal with centuries of unspeakable violence and oppression and consequently major psychological issues and broken homes as well as intense but latent self hatred. Growing up in an AA household is way different then say growing up in a Nigerian or a Somali household. A nigerian or a Somali didnt have to deal with their parents constantly telling them to get their 'nappy headed' black ass over here. That is why AAs even separate themselves from the very people they descend from and group them as 'Africans' because they know they dont grapple with the same struggles and issues that they have growing up.

Basically anyone who claims to be different is claiming they are superior. I believe fully in the Islamic creed that say we are all the sons of Adam alayhi salam and that he was created from dust so your accusations are baseless and you need to relax. Just because I believe I am distinct and with my own identity and culture does not mean I believe I am superior and others are inferior. Is that too hard to understand for your hotep mind.

I'm canadian so i don't know AAs irl. and being black might mean something different here. but from what I've seen i thought AAs claimed all of africa and africans as their people and that they were all collectively black. thats so odd. tbh in canada your considered your ethnicity but if anyone spoke of your race, as a somali the answer would be black. nigerians and west africans you've met don't consider themselves black? becouse its the opposite here.

the word black isn't exclusive to AA or america. so i don't know why you think they would influence me. jamaicans and most africans consider themselves black here, and thus no matter what i believe, as far as race goes, people will see somalis as black. and unlike america it doesn't come with a negative connotation. the inferiority complex you speak of is strictly an american thing as blacks aren't any different to other races here. which is also why unlike you I'm not busy running form that word.
