they lived in the horn of africa (that area was well known by the greeks), so that rules out you people. goodbye.

I really do appreciate your patriotism here, but I'm not your enemy for looking at the possibilities.

I'm not even claiming Macrobia for South Sudanese Nilotes; I'm simply pointing out that thoroughly admixed Nilo-Saharans (not my people) could possibly be the ancient Macrobians, based on the geographical descriptions that @Garaad diinle provided.

I don't even remotely care about Macrobia; if they were Somali, good for you; if they were Nubian type North Sudanese, then good for them

I don't care one way or the other.

Im happy and content with who God made me be. I am somali and will always be somali. Its understandable that seeing your people in a bad state takes a toll but every ”succesfull” ethnic group has went through the same. Somalia is going through a bad patch now but it will soon end. The country is in a different position then it was 10 years and will be remarkably different 10 years in the future.

sure.

Do those nubain type, north sudanese live in the HOA? were they known to live off solely meat and milk? we're they seafarers? No? then that's that.

I literally haven't even bothered to type in Macrobia into the Google search bar to be up to speed on its people or what they ate.

If the Macrobians were Somalis, then great

Do you think I care for North Sudanese even one single bit?

The hatred between the North & South makes the Arab-Israeli wars look like a love-fest between the children of Ibrahim

you know we originated from North Sudan, right? people similar to us might have lived there too.

such a vague example

Most normal people would rather keep their history (especially when good) to themselves rather than assign it to others. What makes Somalis so different in that they do the opposite? Is it some sort of mental illness?

More archeology is being done as peace returns to the country, alx that would shut people like you up

Out of line. @Garaad diinle is an exemplary anthro-buff and knowledgeable about Somali and Horner history while not a self-hater in the least. And by the time of the Macrobians our Cushitic speaking ancestors, even the later waves, would have most likely been gone from there over a thousand years ago. This is 500 BCE we're talking about. The earliest Y-DNA evidence of some of our ancestors still being in Sudan dates to around 2000 BCE and if you wanna go by some linguistic evidence maybe somewhere between 1000 BCE and 2000 BCE but by 500 BCE all of our ancestry would have firmly been within the Horn as far as I know.

And yeah, sure... we'd have been genetically and culturally closely related to those Nubians. In fact, Lower Nubians pretty much would have spoken a Cushitic language but we're not their descendants. It's like a Slav claiming the Indo-Iranian steppe nomads or Scythians or you claiming the South-Cushitic pastoralists whom the Tutsi descend from. Cousins? Yeah. Us? No.

You're not a martyr, walaal.
Well there goes my act and oscars worthy performance.

No, it's the fact that what you're saying doesn't line up with present theories. It's best to go off that then a single source that presents an alternative view. I think I'll believe the widely agreed upon theory.
So let's dissect this properly. We know about macrobia thanks to herodotus and according to his description in terms of geography macrobia lay south of egypt in modern day sudan not somalia. Now do you mean to tell me that these macrobians that lived in sudan 2500 years ago were somali? If so did they speak somali? Who were the pastoralist that were living in somalia and depicted on the temple of hatshepsut 3500 years ago?

I feel like it's so obvious it's Sudan just from the part about all the gold. Even now saaxiibs like Hemedti are rich (billions rich) cos of Sudan's vast gold reserves. Somalia's gold reserves are still untested and when the Greeks mention exports from our coast gold is barely or never mentioned. Same goes for medieval Arab sources. Gold is never emphasized as any kind of key export but it always was for Nubia, even during the middle ages.

I strongly agree with you on this one even in futuh it's been said that gold is acquired by amharas from nubian mines clearly assosiating gold with upper nubia or sudan. On top of that the macrobians were known according to heradotus for their archery and during the islamic futuh arabs mentioned how nubians or sudanese were master archers and therefore couldn't conquer them. This clearly parallels combyses.

100% YES but mostly because of my physical appearance, my somali genes went off on me I look breathtakingly beautiful and I am not going age that's a win win 🥳 I also kinda like our language, the tone and way of speaking sounds nice to me.

I am not a "somaliweyn nationalist" though couldn't care less about the state of Somalia, sooner or later they'll fix their shit anyway so no need for me to fuss about it. Some of you are either too delusional or hella nihilistic, it's a damn ethnicity not your entire identity so don't be too caught up about it.

ok what about punt?

Some things to consider about Punt is that

1) It's old. 1500-2500 BCE old. By that point some of our ancestry seems to have clearly been in Sudan and Horners in general would have been so loosely linguistically differentiated Cushites that there's no point in differentiating us or getting tribal about who is descended from them. It's like the Babylonians and Sumerians. It's a regional heritage. No one group can utterly claim them cos you cannot reliably trace just one group to them.

2) I recall baboon DNA studies or something saying the baboons imported into Egypt looked more southern, as in around the Horn but not sure.

3) Punt is kinda overhyped, walaal. Nowhere do I see a hint that they were some large-scale ancient civilization on par with the Nubians and Egyptians. Seemed more to me like a single fiefdom and its region where people lived in platformed huts and, well, the Masris revered it more for how lush and rich its environment was rather than the grandeur of some Kingdom. In that sense I think it maybe obvious it's not Northeast Sudan. There is no point in recorded history where it would have been lush, as far as I know. So either northern Eritrea or somewhere further south.

@Barni You know I love you but I'm kinda getting tired of you shitting on Somalis. I have observed in many threads where you mock Somalis for actually having a positive outlook on their country. How can you claim we don't have a history? we are literally the first people to inhabit the horn of Africa, do you think we popped out of the ground?
The reason you don't hear about our history is because:
  1. The civil war destroyed our country and nobody is left to study our history
  2. We are nomads and most East African communities spread their customs and traditions orally. They didn't record on books.
I went through a period in my life where I absolutely hated Somalia but there is no other place that I would feel at home. I felt so powerless because my country was going to shit but there was nothing I could do about it because I lacked both the education and power to do anything meaningful. Don't worry, this feeling will go away and that small spark of hope deep inside your heart will re-ignite (at least i hope so lmao)
The country is becoming more stable by the year. We can't expect for every issue to be solved in just a few years. Just 10 years ago Al-kabab controlled the capital, now they are getting smoked. Imagine the progress we would make in 20 years.

Here is a nice video:

I was just reflecting last night & I think for the first time in my life I admitted to myself that I am not proud being somali. I was blindly patriotic as a child, but after learning about qabilism, the state of our government, the treatment that women & children go through back home, the continuous drought & famine, the fact that our lands are occupied by our enemies & lack of ancient somali history (DON’T U DARE MENTION MACROBIA OR PUNT! UNLESS THERE IS EVIDENCE LINKING US TO IT, ITS PSUEDOHISTORY) the list could go on forever. But I would like to clarify I dont hate being somali, I just dont see y ppl r boastful about it.
Of course
Be proud of your heritage however don’t shove it on anyone else neck
