are Somali women normalising wearing hijab in the west ?

A mere finger can’t obscure the sun.
He was a political activist and originally got interested in Islam via NOI for racial grievance reasons. Perhaps later on as he studied mainstream Islam did he realize the error of his ways, but we can never be sure if he adopted mainstream Islam later on to save face or if he was genuine.
I’m not denying that, but it’s also possible he had a change of heart. I’m inclined to give him the benefit of doubt and believe his actions were sincere.

Such an ignorant reply. I want NO models, you can't advocate for haram by saying "well it could be worse". Are you going to start advocating for alcohol since its not as bad as heroin?
Alcohol is a major sin and has a wa3eed but not wearing hijab doesn’t. That’s not even a fair comparison. You’re a man, do us a favor and worry about your kin. Muslim women overall have far more modesty than the men.

In that other thread I was trolling, but my stance on Malcolm X/NOI is sincere. I think his motives were completely racial and not theological.

this actually ties back directly to what is addressed in a hadith

Usamah ibn Zayd reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent us on an expedition. In the morning we attacked Al-Huraqat of Juhaynah. I caught hold of a man and he said, “There is no god but Allah!” but I stabbed him. Then it occurred to me that I should mention that to the Prophet. The Prophet said, “Did he say ‘there is no god but Allah’ and you killed him?” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, he only said it fearing the weapon.” The Prophet said, “Did you tear open his heart to know if he meant it or not?” The Prophet continued to repeat this to me until I had wished I had not embraced Islam until that day.

Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6478, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 96

Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi (authenticity agreed upon) according to Al-Bukhari and Muslim

you see how this invalidates that sort of claim? Usamah ibn Zayd claimed that the man in the hadith only took the shahadah to avoid being killed- but Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) directly rebuked this.... so no one has a right to take this kind of approach to Malcolm X's conversion to Islam.... he really was a lot different after he went to Mecca and no one has a right to say "he only did it for such-and-such reason" and to treat his conversion to Islam as though it wasn't valid.

At first, yes. He was fighting a racial system that was subduing his people. However, performing hajj had a profound impact on him and he started to see white people in a more humane way and as such, he developed a theocentric approach. He rejected the racial superiority doctrine of NOI.

given their history, it's pretty understandable for AAs to have some hard feelings towards whites. even white people themselves understand this.

You’re also on some hotep shit like no other on this site even worse then the Mexican

So according to what I've read, I both work for the CIA and Xi Jinping, I am both a Nazi and a Communist, and now I'm both an anti-black racist because I'm anti-blm and also a hotep afrocentrist simultaneously. I don't know how to reconcile the things I've read about myself. I'm an anti-black afrocentrist? I wonder what that would look like.

Honestly, imo this goes back to this focus people have on white people and black people. I am anti-Western in my thinking but this isn't something specific to any particular race. I wish well for AAs but pretty much the only AA intellectual I listen to is Candace Owens because I enjoy hearing her mocking leftists. I'm more likely to listen to a speech from Hugo Chávez than I am to listen to one from Malcolm X.

Muslim men and Muslim women are obliged to follow the commands of Allaah and His Messenger, no matter how difficult that may be for people and without feeling shy of other people. The believer who is sincere in his faith is the one who is sincere in carrying out his duty towards his Lord and obeying His commands and avoiding that which He has forbidden. No believer, man or woman, has the right to hesitate or delay with regard to commands; rather he or she should hear and obey immediately, in accordance with words of Allaah (interpretation of the meaning):

“It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allaah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision” [al-Ahzaab 33:36]

This is the case with the believers who are praised by their Lord in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allaah (His Words, the Qur’aan) and His Messenger, to judge between them, is that they say: “We hear and we obey.” And such are the successful (who will live forever in Paradise).

And whosoever obeys Allaah and His Messenger , fears Allaah, and keeps his duty (to Him), such are the successful” [al-Noor 24:51-52]

Moreover, the Muslim should not look at how small or great the sin is, rather he should look at the greatness and might of the One Whom he is disobeying, for He is the Most Great, the Most High; He is Mighty in strength and Severe in punishment, and His punishment is severe and painful and humiliating. If He exacts vengeance on those who disobey Him, then utter destruction will be their fate. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the (population of) towns while they are doing wrong. Verily, His Seizure is painful (and) severe.

Indeed in that (there) is a sure lesson for those who fear the torment of the Hereafter. That is a Day whereon mankind will be gathered together, and that is a Day when all (the dwellers of the heavens and the earth) will be present” [Hood 11:102-103]

A sin may appear insignificant in the eyes of a person when before Allaah it is serious, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“you counted it a little thing, while with Allaah it was very great”

[al-Noor 24:15]

“Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma‘roof (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:104]

Enjoining what is good (al-ma’roof) and forbidding what is evil (al-munkar) is one of the most important Islamic duties, indeed it is the noblest and most sublime. This is the task of the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them all), as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Messengers as bearers of good news as well as of warning in order that mankind should have no plea against Allaah after the (coming of) Messengers” [al-Nisaa’ 4:165]

Allaah has made the Muslim ummah the best nation ever raised up for mankind, in order to do this important task, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“You (true believers in Islamic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad and his Sunnah) are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma‘roof (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allaah” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:110]

If the ummah fails to do its duty of enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil, wrongdoing and corruption will spread throughout the ummah, and it will deserve the curse of Allaah. For Allaah cursed those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved because they failed in this important duty. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of Dawood (David) and ‘Eesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). That was because they disobeyed (Allaah and the Messengers) and were ever transgressing beyond bounds.

They used not to forbid one another from Al-Munkar (wrong, evildoing, sins, polytheism, disbelief) which they committed. Vile indeed was what they used to do [al-Maa’idah 5:78]

Enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil is a mission which will never end until the Hour begins. It is obligatory upon all the ummah, rulers and subjects, men and women, each according to his or her circumstances. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever among you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand [by taking action]; and if he cannot, then with his tongue [by speaking out]; and if he cannot, then with his heart [by feeling that it is wrong] – and that is the weakest of faith.” (Narrated by Muslim, 49)

Fun and nice that you’re quoting the Quran but you’ve lost all credibility when you said this:
“I'm amazed by the audacity of you asking me proof of me being Somali when you're a westernised murtad swine who probably can't even speak Somali. Your kind deserved nothing but death.”

threatening me and then claiming I’m a murtad and afterwards saying I deserve nothing but death really shows what kind of person you are. Do smt worthful in your life sweetie

Ikr? It always ends up like that where the likes of him threaten others for a different opinion lmao.

there are only a few people whom I take seriously whenever they talk about religion (@Tamir for example, really nice and well educated about Islam), but this dude takes it to a next lvl.

@Omar del Sur i apologise for ever calling you names because you are wayyyy better then a certain user here. Also better worded and can actually hold a convo.

I agree with you but I genuinely think towards the end of his life Malcolm X had a 360. After he went to Mecca and toured Africa, he changed his outlook and become a “true Muslim”.

He was a political activist and originally got interested in Islam via NOI for racial grievance reasons. Perhaps later on as he studied mainstream Islam did he realize the error of his ways, but we can never be sure if he adopted mainstream Islam later on to save face or if he was genuine.
We can’t be sure but that’s between him and Allah subhana wa ta’ala. It’s more Islamic to give him the benefit of the doubt

Somali women are the most hijab wearing Muslims in North America out of all the Muslim communities. They’re also very influential with hijab fashion on Instagram and Twitter.

The hijab modeling thing is kinda cringe imo. The Islamic validity of it aside, it's a gimmick.

But Somalis women absolutely emboldened Muslim communities in the West to wear hijabs. I've heard from different people that Somalis made a splash when they arrived. Even this British-Pakistani old head that lived in my old city pointed out how much of a difference they made to the local Muslim community.

Wallahi I even seen Asian girls wear a 'modern' (or whatever you call it jilbaab) last time I went Birmingham. Their Somali friends rubbed off on them. Absolutely GOATed

Yeah I’ve heard that too. Somalis have like normalised wearing hijab here, they aren’t scared of gaals opinion. Sure some don’t wear it right and some use it as an aesthetic but what do gaals know? They still see that as a threat regardless, better than not wearing it all
