I’m proud full geeljire calm your naaso down its question :draketf:

im more interested in carab somali origin from shabelle regions if they are arabs or sheegato @convincation @Kheyre
The Carabs in Mahadaay come under the Ghiir ghiir which is a local confederacy in western M.Shabelle consisting of Small Somali lineages, Bantus and Arabs.

The locals that I’ve spoken to usually separate the Carabs into two sections, one section is made up of the descendants of Carab men and Eylo Bantu mothers and the other are the Asal Carabs who only mix with local Somali tribes (Hawadle is known for mixing with them). Overall the latter actually look like Carabs as one of my cousins married one who to me looks more Yemeni than cadcads do.

I’ve also come across Arabs deep in the shabelle in a small town 12km north of Afgooye. These Arabs were Yemeni who spoke both Somali and Arabic and owned a lot of the local farmland along the river. If you were to see these people you would notice how out of place they look, they were pure big nosed Arabs smack in the middle of Al shabab African territory. I don’t know of their origins or what clan confederacy they come under though.

The response I very much needed minus the trolls on here I somehow viewed them as the carab salax of the south never knew Arabs were into farming.

I thought reer Maanyo were Gibil madoow?
I have a few relatives that are reer Maanyo through marriage but they look like regular Somalis .
My reer maanyo family members from my grandma side are mostly brownskin and more somali looking than the gibil cadcad in xamarweyne. They just have some arab phenotypes like having thick eyebrows and moustache and few other minor differences. Other than that they could pass of as your typical somali. Gibil madow have intermixed heavily with the local hawiye/rx populations for centuries

I just refer to any arab lineage clan in somalia cadcad/reer xamar regardless of if they are gibil maadow/cadacad. Where I'm from, we even refer to carab saleex from puntland as cadcad. similar to how we refer to any raxanweyne as eelay

Meheri Arabs were also mentioned in Futuh Al Habesha (The Conquest of Abysinnia) if I am not mistaken. I think their ties to Somalis are far older than originally assumed.

In Somali tradition, you are what your father/clan is, therefore Carab Saalax/Meheri are Arabs but they are Somalised Arabs. Their DNA also matches with their origin story, they match with other Meheri Arabs in the Arabian peninsula.

In Somalia, they are no different to Majeerteen as their maternal lineage is mostly Bah-Majeerteen clans and they live among us.

what year/century did these mehris arrive in Puntland and what would you estimate their population being today in Somalia?

The Mehri are one of the largest tribes in the Al Mahrah Governorate of Yemen and in the island of Socotra and Dhofar Governorate of Oman. Mehri group members are also found in other countries in the Arabian Peninsula, mainly Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Somalia.[3]

In Somalia, I assume they are a few hundred thousand by now?

As for when they arrrived, I heard a few hundred years ago, but I think they've been coming for waves for Centuries. This is because the Daarood Ismaaciil + Meheri Ismaaciil are brothers myth has been around for a long time. But we know that DNA has disproved this.

I believe that through Centuries of intermarriage and trade, these myths developed and people still believe it till this day.

Btw, the Meheri-Harti link isn't just in Somalia. In Oman, we have Harti people that have been Arabised, as they live and intermarry with Meheri and other Proto-Semitic clans.

Unfortunately, these Hartis think they are also originally Arab Somali (they believe the Daarood is Arab myth).

They have names like Al-Siwaaqroon, AlDashishe, Al-Bahante (Dhulbahante) etc. etc.
Imagine having a name with WAAQ in it, and thinking you are originally Arab.

Are people still claiming to be descendants of that sandal Thief from Quraysh?
Don’t insult the nebi on here you nacaas.

there are many Arabs in Yemen that have Somali grandfathers in their father side and they would 100% always say that they are Arab but some Darood's and Isaaq that had a grand daddy from 800 years ago that was an Arab till now will claim they are Arabs

embarrassing bunch that have no shame

wrong. There are Somali-Arabs and Arab Somalis. Leave this thread to people who are Somali and have lived in Somalia.

Arab Salh are Arab Somali.

Arab Somalis are collection of Arab clans mostly from Yemen who settled in Somalia, they are mainly concentrated in Mogadishu(Shibis), Kismayo, Buuloburte and Bosaso. Arab Salh is a subclan of the Arab tribe of Mahra, they mostly live in Puntland and to lesser extent in Galmudug and the South. They are are affiliated with the Majerteen Somali clan.
Bro I think they only live in puntland (bosaso, garowe, galkacyo, etc)....I'm half arab Salah, never heard of any living in non MJ lands tbh.

From what I understand, they are just traders that came to somali for business. Somalis would kill outsiders, so arab salah married and connected with MJ (for protection) as a away to get a peaceful foothold into the horn of africa. They are not considered MJs and are looked at as just somaliaized arabs but they are respected because they have heavily intermarried with alot of MJ tribes so we are interwined with them.

I mean Carab Salaax have the same culture as Majeerteen. We see them as a separate clan but as a "nephew" clan if that makes sense. In Oman, Harti have the same dynamic with Al Meheri and Al Shehri and others.

Is there connection between carab somali from koonfurta somalia and carab salaax from puntland?
The only connection there's is that they're from Yemen other than that the Reer Banadri community are Qurayesh Hadrami tribes or clans while Carab Salex are descendants of Mehri Himyar tribe in the south of Yemen

They live in Galmudug, Southern Galkayo and Dhuusomareb, they even had representations in the GM parliament before Farmajo took their Kursi in 2020.
