Abdi is used as a prefix followed by a name of Allah (e.g Abdirashid, Abdinasir, Abdullahi)
I've never seen someone name simply abdi lol

Lol shit thats the stereotypical name for us already for awhile now I don't think it'll go away soon, just gotta take that L. Atleast a good chunk name them Abdirahman or something, i've met more Abdi as last names than first

I wish we had mostly traditional first names and last names. I love islamic names but the problem is the media who will automatically know your muslim (if a somali does a crime) and smear not only our name but islam.

the word "Abdi" is tainted in the uk anyone with that name would be bantered even worse than the name Patel. That's why you see many somali boys shorten their names to Abz

I wish we had traditional surnames and first names in that way we can identify who is somali and who isn't why don't i often see the surnames jama, moalim, samatar, hersi, elmi shire or first names like Guled, Libyan? it would counter any islamaphobe comments from these weird ajanabis as they won't know the individual religion due to authentic names.

My surname is Somali and i really look down upon Somalis that don't either got first or last authentic name of Somali origin. If for example a Kikuyu muslim have a name like Mohamed Mwangi but you would know straight away he is a Kenyan from the Kikuyu tribe. But with a Somali is will be difficult because of islamisation and hate for Somali names instead of Tifow Mohamed will be Mohamed Mohamed as you wouldn't know if he is Somali or not.

We Should not detest islamic names is beautiful with beautiful meanings however it would have been best to have both traditional first names and surnames names like you said to know if the individual is somali. It doesn't help Somalis being one of the most hated groups, these right wings can easily tarnish Somalis due to our names.

Adding ي at the end of a word is the indication of my in Arabic. For example ام is mother but امي is my mother. Same case for 3abd and 3abdi.

Somalis say this out of ignorance so I doubt they will face repercussions in the hereafter for this however this shows the importance of speaking Arabic and understanding the grammar that comes with it. If this video isn’t proof Somalia needs complete and absolute arabization idk what is
