I agree with the Islamic teaching that nationalism is haram. Having arrogance and thinking because you were born somewhere, you are better than others is a disgraceful trait.

But a wartorn nation taking one day in the year to reminisce the good parts of our country's history is not that.

If the Ummah would have been *real* people would have protested and helped us too during our hard times but guess what? Most of them don’t care and aren’t aware of what kind of horrible situation we are in 30 years later. We don’t get the same support as Yemen or Palestine despite the fact that our issues were bigger and horrible compared to these 2.

I’ll gladly celebrate the 1st of July because it’s our independence, it shows how much our ancestors fought for their freedom. If it wasn’t for that, the Ethiopian government would have absorbed our country a long time ago.
