Compared to a serious and sufficiently armed army?

It won't costs even a fraction of that and the current administration could probably afford it atm as well.

Might take a little bit of time to train the officers in Russia (don't trust Turkey with this one).

Once you get a few hundred fairly competent operators we can secretly train local snitches or even trained spies for less than 10 million.

They don't even need to know how to use weapons.

Just get them the basic course on comms, taking photographs and w/e we need to get a list of confirmed terrorists and their sympathisers (funders and corrupt politicians).

We all know that foreigners won't provide Farmaajo with the resources to build an army so this is pretty much his only option.

AS we write this, the Turks are running their own military base in Mogadishu and training a Somali national troops of mixed clans and this idea is based on sending these clan mixed troops to all the regions of Somalia. It would have been far better to take all the under 10 year old younger children who are orphans, build the basics of their education, brainwash them with nationalism with very little or no loyalty towards any clan. In less than two decades, Somalia will have a united and patriotic army that is loyal to the State. But political parties should be established and the 4.5 politic tribal based system should be eliminated immediately,

As long as there is poverty among the masses, the young will be tempted to join alshabaab for a basic living wage and then brainwash them. The other major headache dealing with alshabaab are the clans. Every clan that has been marginalised from the corridors of power seem to seek alliance with alshabaab to defeat those who are deemed in power. Establishing political parties of mixed clans in each party might ward off allegations of marginalisation. The most important component of governments is what are these children taught in the madrasahs? Are they taught radical salafism or salafism that considers all the other sects to be infidels. It's a very dangerous philosophy that is designed for political and communal conflict. What will the government do about it? A friend in Mogadishu told me, it's better to be quiet in Mogadishu or seen as government hater and openly criticise them because you don't know who is with alshabaab. They even collect tax from buisness owners in Bakaraha Market because the government can't protect them or worse off, government police officials demand to pay them or they will charge them conspiring with alshabaab. They are caught between a rock and a hard place. Sxb, the intelligence gathering is a major component fighting alshabaab but other components such as the economic conditions of the masses, trust building and securing business owners, inclusive politics of all Somali clans by establishing political parties of mixed clan representations, education and employment of young people and building a united defence force is all required to defeat alshabaab, Not only intelligence gathering.

To cut it short.

Just see it as a 80/20 approach.

Cut off the head of terrorist supporters in Somalia... and make it too difficult to recruit again.

Muslim countries just as poor as Somalia don't have a terrorism problem as bad as ours.

Even though their enemies would love to flood their cities with suicide bombers.

Once no one is able to recruit & train the foot soldiers... it would be very unlikely for them to continue on as lone wolves.



This is because most Al Shabaab members joined them more for the free food than their ideology.

That's why you get all these East African poor youths joining them.



You can't improve the standard of living of Somalis without some decent leverage over the country.

The main obstacle is these corrupt politicians who use clans as a front for their ambitions.

They use the current chaos as an excuse to ignore the authority of a central power (not necessarily only Farmaajo but past leaders or unification attempts as well).

Only when we can get rid of the weak portrayal of the government (i.e. being able to control more than just the airport); the current leader would have the mandate of the Somali people and leverage to take out these trash and reinstate control over the country and in turn the economy.

Farmaajo can't even replace the useless Somali Shilling right now without all the state presidents ganging up on him since they all probably print it for their own use.
