Their retaliation will consist of granting Russia more bases in the corridor they control.
It's a tit for tat. US wants Iran to lose it and hit back while Iran is trying to secure it's regime at any costs.

The mullahs only care about their own positions. They won't hit back unless they're 100% sure they'll survive the outcome.
At most they'll amp up their support towards the houtis so they wouldn't look to bad domestically.
However if they actually blockade the Hormuz straits or move more troops to Iraq or Syria then the US would just ounish them again and they'll he forced to up the notch in the retaliation game.
All the way until they have no choice but to declare war...which is what the US Hawks want...
Iran would probably want to avoid that so whatever they'll do it won't warrant too much of a punishment from the US without having them losing the support of the US public.
Also Iran's sugar daddies would want then to stay lowkey to give them time.
In another 10 years China will be equal to the US in it's global influence (new spice trade route) & firepower.
Russia would also have the same level of tech with new 9,000th generation fighter jets and hypersonic missiles.
Until then they'd want to avoid falling into a trap like Germany did in ww2...
