Islam says it preferable to partway with a gift (there is no upper limit) if the divorce was from the husband but if she requested it and he allows it then he can ask for his mahr back.

If it was an amicable split most won't hold back from giving something and men don't really take the mahr back for the most part.

I think the only time someone is entitled to half or something similar, is if they put their career on hold for the other person to build their business.
