"Although Somali president Mohamed Farmajo would like to see the Somalia National Army (SNA) become really an army he got only a limited commitment from Britain to help bring that about when he attended the London Summit on Somalia on May 11-12. The United Kingdom plans to set aside GBP 21 million over a two year period to assist Somalia in licking the SNA into shape and thus improve its chances of eliminating Al Shabaab. (ION nº1447). The message behind Britain's modest allocation is that London wishes to minimize its involvement. And this at a moment, according to our sources, when Farmajo claims he wants to recruit 2,000 soldiers from each regional state in the federation but has recruited only troops from his own community, the Darod (including the Dolbahantes) for the moment. That situation is of deep concern to the elite of the Hawiye community which held a flurry of meetings in Nairobi and Mogadishu between May 14-18. A member of that community, former president Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, who presently resides in Turkey, is spearheading the mobilization, according to our sources. Representatives of the Hawiye community also traveled to Hargeisa to meet with Issaq chiefs to whom the Hawiye were close during massacres carried out by late president Mohamed Said Barre in the 1980s. But that initiative fell through because Mohamoud hadn’t backed Somaliland’s demand for international recognition as an independent state when he was president."

:ooh:

Are Hawiye meeting with Isaaq chiefs so they can try to take Farmajo down?

Shit, this does not look good. 21 million doesn't seem necessarily a lot if you include the amount of equipments needed to buy and the people needed to recruit.

Oh, damn. This is not good.

It is a interesting read. It seems the Hawiye fear any Darood dominated army forces in their areas. However the meeting in Hargeisa did not
work because the Sland politicians are upset that Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud didn't support separation during his presidency.

I'm with farmajo on this one more hawiye soldiers is more hawiye causalties share the burden of troop contribution with other clans and expanding the size of the army
old people using clan for selfish reason.

You have some here claiming they don't want the SNA being armed because it gives hawiye an unfair advantage, and behind the scenes Britain doesn't want to help out because they don't want to stoke the flame of tribal tensions by arming the darods thus minimizing their involvement.

I already know Britain doesn't care about somalia, but seeing HSM making moves behind the scenes should show everyone by now that he's clear as day a spoiler to progress

HSM is a rat for trying to undermine the government and running to Hargeisa. Farmaajo is an idiot if he is trying to keep Hawiye out, he will really regret it as he's on their turf. This is not the way to do it. Isn't his wife Hawiye? Somalis need to learn to have dialogue wada hadal why don't they sit down with rach other and put it out on the table? If Farmaajo can't even do that what makes him think he can start peace and reconciliation talks?

This is the same old tricks from not just the neighbours but now also the Bantu countries of waging war on anything resembling Somali state, looks like the normally credible African intelligence has been taken over by nefarious entities intent on ensuing conflict.

This is complete fake news, HSM is in Turkey not Nairobi nor spearheading the opposition he spoke out against, the opposition is spearheaded by Xidig/CC which is not a secret (both enemies of HSM) one carrying the Ethiopian agenda the other the Kenyan.

So we have to believe they got into opposition to oppose supposed Dhullo soldiers being trained which is laughable. What people need to realise is this goes beyond president, the plan's come from the top and are handed down.

The only choice the President has since the base can only train a certain number of soldiers at a time is which state goes first, now I did hear Farmaajo first selection was to incorporate the 800 or so soldiers around Sool/buhoodle (dhullo's) but Abdi Weli gaas blocked this from happening.

They took this story and padded it with their own twists and lies.

These so called politicians are the ones playing the same game over and over again.

You're rigth, but expect Somalis to follow the worst moron leading them to an obvious pitfall just becuase they share a clan with him.

The politicians are playing the masses like a fiddle. Unfortunately, clan mentality is far deeper engrained in the common Somali's psyche than any sense of "Soomaalinimo". It's the bitter truth which will take generations of systematic work to undo.

It doesn't say he recruited only the Dholbahante but all Daroods. Personally I have no problem
with them being part of the SNA as long as they operate in their areas (since mistrust is still
high).

How credible is Africa intelligence though? Despite their subscrition, they've been known to just regurgitate articles from other outlets that have a historical bias towards a certain person/group

Also why is it based on qabiil? isn't he supposed to be the "president of all somalis"

It is one of the biggest insiders in Africa in politics and business that date back to the 70s-80s it covers East, West, North and South Africa, so very reliable in most cases. Well federal regions are based on qabil what do you think.

No wonder my nigga Dahir Alasow is going crazy. I believe the article.

Africa Intelligence spares no one when it comes to the truth. They even posted the meeting between Cirro and Abdirashid Sharmarke
in Nairobi however the reason was Sharmarke was asking Cirro if he can assist him with some of the reer Waqooyi MPs to vote for
him in the elections and nothing to do with Somaliweyn.

If Farmaajo wants to survive he should exploit qabiil politics. There are already clans that are against him by citing violence towards him and holding conferences against him in his first 4 months. He should learn from his mistakes as a pm by appeasing the wrong, and often ungrateful, communities.

His predecessor singlehandedly created hawiye federal states by all means necessary.

You're right he needs to stop appeasing to Puntlanders.
