A video about Chunkz gets people to talk about how somalis have contributed nothing to the world.

Its honestly a
very cringe to think about comments of faceless people who like people here said are mad that he's proud of being somali. But if we're talking contributions or achievements. I would say the major one would have to be our poetry. An oral society that developed poetry as complex and sophisticated as somali poetry that can stand up to the major writtencivilizations like the chinese arabs and persian is probably unique in history.

If they went to Mogadishu they would have an even better time , visiting the beach resorts, big amusement parks, animal zoos/safaris, scuba diving and desert rides.

Shared a few them of them in a different thread before.
Even next to the Mogadishu airport there is a bowling park with cool looking caffee's. You can look through her account she lives in Xamar and has a good time.

So Somalia can be very lit, if yall open your eyes to it and not obsess about what some random comments have to say about it. But go and experience it for yourself.

Here is a collage of different activities from landing

Can you share some well-known Somali poems? I'm not too familiar with our poetry and would love to look into it.

Man we're constantly going viral and getting bashed on the anglophone side of the internet yet we're barely mentioned let alone discussed on the Arabophone side

Our downfall happened during the media age where information is just pilling up spreading everywhere and we are powerless to stop it.

Had the civil war happened even 70 years earlier the only way people would know is some old news papers that would be lost to time.

However we got 4k footage every other week being shown to international audiences.

For example during the colonial era just imagine how much fkd material was either lost media or wasn’t recorded. The lack of technology saved our faces.

Don’t take it seriously it’s just white people crying looool. They hate us because we’re madow and Muslim that’s all

You can't boil it down to that simplicity ,. If you had mentioned Chad which is also Muslim and black, would they say the same? loool Perhaps part of it could be immigration our presence in their countries.

Most of their perceptions is obviously due to the past decades of media coverage surrounding Somalia's instability. We don't have pretend it's anything else

the downfall came when somalis started to dislike each other. In a country where its own population dispises each other, you wont get anywhere

People still think 2024 Somalia is the same Somalia in Black Hawk Down. When FGS is done dealing with the AS problem they should spend some money on marketing the country's new improved state like paying YouTubers to make vlogs in Xamar.

It’s mostly immigration. Look how a lot of the comments are from brits. You don’t see French people or Spaniards complaining about us.

The craziest thing is that we aren’t even that big in number in the west. We’re probably at around 700k in total. We’re just hyper visible that’s all

as long as they don’t say this stuff to your face don’t care about it everybody talks shit online they’ve been fed horrible images of Somalia for decades the media has blood on their hands

Day ruined because a 16 year old kid with braces and smelly breath said my country is not lit. Time to be sad.

Have someone dissed your backround ever in real life? The answer is no. Grow up and stop living online.
Exactly why is there a whole thread about it

There is not much in English . But there are coupe books if you type somali poetry in amazon that'll come up. It really doends on how good your somali is. Becuase even me I just pick up bits and pieces from YouTube where somalis tall about poetry in af somali. One big name is idajaa who's videos you can find online where he talk about culture and poetry. There is also a guy on twitter who's doing a zoom workshop analysis somali poems for a month once a week. His twitter is ibrahim hirsi.

Your definitely somewhat right but it's a bit more complex than that. France has been a world power for centuries and while not as old as Iraq there is a reason people visit. In scandavia's Case the sagas are really intresting and are masterpieces of world literature sudan doesn't really have an equivalent to this. Also the vikings have been a fascination in europe for centuries because they were way more influential than people today who don't know the history realize. Russia was founded by vikings. The descends of the vikings who became the norms also conquered England and ruled it for centuries. They also fought across Europe as mercenaries and traded all over. In that sense they were more influential in shaping world history than the anicnet sudanese kingdoms.

To be honest your ‘world history’ is basically Europe, which is fair but this is the same Europe that was barely mentioned in, what was historically that continent’s most important book, the Bible, while ancient Sudan is referenced multiple times within. European history looks so much grander today precisely because in the last couple of centuries they surpassed their ancestors. If Sudan today was a multi-trillion dollar economic power, with military bases across Africa and a globally popular soft power industry, the histories of Kerma, Kush, Meroe, the Three Kingdoms of Nubia, the Mahdist State, etc would all be illuminated in cinematic theatres and tv-screens, while millions of tourists would visit their ancient sites.

Another good example of this today would be the two Koreas, one is an advanced modern power, with a global economic and cultural reach, which is why Korean history movies and tv-shows are so popular around the world, and why nobody is making threads about what Koreans contributed to history. The other country (North Korea) is a poor nuclear power state with the same economy as a recovering Somalia. If the South was anything like North Korea, their overall history would be significantly diminished in terms of people’s interest compared to what it is today as a result of South Korea’s status.

Which is why Somalis, especially the leaders, need to focus on pushing Somalia to a new level economically, because everything else would naturally fall into place, be it global perception, reputation, importance or acknowledgement.
