Who built this museum?
The building of the musuem was built by Barghash ibn sa'id, the omani sultan. He had to ask Ahmed yusuf for permission to build it then the Italians said they would make a musuem out of itWho built this museum?
Is there an even older photo of itIt might surprise you to know that the construction was badly built and in less than 50 years of it's construction it's state looked unflattering to say the least. It probably couldn't withstand a siege and you could say that it was a facade meant to house omanis. It was build hastily and couldn't withstand the test of time which prompted the colonial powers to take it and turn it into a museum.

My great grand father was one of the omanis that came he married a local and gave birth to my grandfathers father thereThe omanis were afraid of the inhabitants of the city therefore they opted to build their villa not in xamarweyne or shingani but right in the middle of the two xaafadah. I remember reading a letter sent by baragash to the omanis inside the villa where he told them to touch some grass and go out to the xaafadaha but they didn't trust the inhabitants and stayed inside the villa.
