It might surprise you to know that the construction was badly built and in less than 50 years of it's construction it's state looked unflattering to say the least. It probably couldn't withstand a siege and you could say that it was a facade meant to house omanis. It was build hastily and couldn't withstand the test of time which prompted the colonial powers to take it and turn it into a museum.

The omanis were afraid of the inhabitants of the city therefore they opted to build their villa not in xamarweyne or shingani but right in the middle of the two xaafadah. I remember reading a letter sent by baragash to the omanis inside the villa where he told them to touch some grass and go out to the xaafadaha but they didn't trust the inhabitants and stayed inside the villa.

Was there no large scale ships? Its hard to imagine somalis were able to traverse the Indian ocean and control our waters on such tiny boats.

Here are some examples of traditional Somali boats, These traditional Somali boats are still used today in many parts of the country, particularly in rural areas where modern boats may be too expensive or impractical. From the Bajuni islands, Barawa and Merca to Xafun

  1. Korkor: This is a small, flat-bottomed boat used for fishing in shallow waters. It is typically made from wood and has a low freeboard to make it easier to cast nets.
  2. Beden: This is a larger fishing boat that is used for deep-sea fishing. It has a pointed bow and a flat stern, and is often powered by sails or outboard motors.
  3. Gabar: This is a medium-sized boat that is used for transportation and fishing. It has a long, narrow hull and is often powered by oars or a small engine.
  4. Jahazi: This is a large, seaworthy vessel that was historically used for long-distance trade and transportation. It has a high freeboard and is often powered by sails or oars.
