The building of the musuem was built by Barghash ibn sa'id, the omani sultan. He had to ask Ahmed yusuf for permission to build it then the Italians said they would make a musuem out of it

It might surprise you to know that the construction was badly built and in less than 50 years of it's construction it's state looked unflattering to say the least. It probably couldn't withstand a siege and you could say that it was a facade meant to house omanis. It was build hastily and couldn't withstand the test of time which prompted the colonial powers to take it and turn it into a museum.

The omanis were afraid of the inhabitants of the city therefore they opted to build their villa not in xamarweyne or shingani but right in the middle of the two xaafadah. I remember reading a letter sent by baragash to the omanis inside the villa where he told them to touch some grass and go out to the xaafadaha but they didn't trust the inhabitants and stayed inside the villa.

It's very sad that boat-making which was seemingly around as far back as 2,000 years ago based on the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea describing "sewn boats" like those of the more recent Indian Ocean being used along the Somali coast...

this is a recent one of the bajuni islands interesting to note that the Bajunis still use sail boats until today

My great grand father was one of the omanis that came he married a local and gave birth to my grandfathers father there
