Two words: Family planning. That's what's missing in our community.

I personally know lots of somali families with 8, 9 and 10 kids, who did all of that just to acquire more in child benefits (very egoistical of them if you ask me). I feel like there's some sort of a recurring theme in many of these cases, whereby you have a mother with lots of kids (often times raising them alone by herself) and the father almost always being absent. However, this one is different since the father (aun) passed away.

I did this when I was 15. I had a polish friend who told the social he was abused and got his own place at 15. So me and my Somali friend wanted our own place. He told us what to do and I actually did. Luckily my dad did very well in the interview and bought some time. They sat me down and slowly explain the gravity of what I did and what it could do to my siblings. I took it back next day. They really tried to convince me to go through and I told I made it all up.

A lot of these people look for reason to take children from their families and ask them questions in certain way to get certain answers to get the children. We have Hollywood celebs dressing their boys as girls and telling them they are girls and they keep their children

Facts. My mom never beat us and I turned out wonderful. Somali kids who were beaten as kids become rebellious or they develop Stockholm syndrome where they blindly follow the orders of their abusive parent. I have an aunt who use to severely beat her kids. They’re grown and successful (got good jobs etc) but they are deeply dependent on their mom for direction, aren’t married and can’t make decisions for themselves. We don’t talk because even as a kid, I thought what my aunt was doing was wrong and told her because I was so disturbed by how she was beating my cousin, but my mom told me to mind my business.
