Hi gang. We’ve had to pause the release sadly. Here is why. It’s been a sad couple of days tbh

Hi everyone, we wanted to take time to respond to this with care, so sorry for the delay but this rumour that has been circulating has been very upsetting to see & we wanted to address it fully.

The comments & posts on TikTok regarding our unauthorised use of the song Dooyo by the incredible Dur-Dur band are completely untrue. We want to reassure everyone that whenever you hear a sample of anyone else’s music on an officially released Disclosure song (including this one), it will ALWAYS be cleared, legally & through all the proper channels such as record labels publishing etc. This has been done with the owners of the rights to this song & our team have spoken with Abdinur Daljir who confirmed that he and his wife Sahra Dawo (both original Dur-Dur members) are the sole writers/composers of the song. They will be paid every time the song is played, and the owners of the rights to the song were also paid a fee when we signed the contract to clear the sample. That being said, it has more recently come to our attention that there is another current iteration of the group known as ‘Dur-Dur band international’ who live in London & are still active & touring the original bands songs. SO, we are also now in conversation with them to make sure they’re happy too.

This all has happened pre-release, meaning we haven’t made a penny from this track, so we were very shocked to see this rumour because we really, truly care about doing things fairly & in a way that feels good for everyone involved.

It’s an amazing thing to be able to celebrate the work of artists from around the world by giving it new life, and this has been really central to our music for a long time as anyone who’s followed us for a while will know. That being said, we always make sure this is done the right way… if a sample isn’t cleared for use, the song will not ever be released. End!

To clarify, we absolutely LOOOVE Dur-Dur Band. We are genuinely just big fans who made a club version of their track for fun & to play in our dj sets. Once we saw the reaction it was getting online and messages from fans asking what the song was, we decided to release it & began the process of clearing the sample immediately. The hope was also that by releasing the new version, it would bring attention to Dur-Durs incredible work & remarkable story which absolutely captivated us when we were first discovering them. Guy did a full breakdown of the song, explaining where the sample is from & read out Dur-Durs entire Wikipedia page for context on their origins on our twitch stream a few days ago to help our fans understand the history of Dur-Dur. It’s still on our Twitch page if you’d like to watch.

Copyright & permission aside, the track will now always be titled as 'Dooyo' as many of you have requested. Dur-Dur were always going to be listed as a featured artist across all streaming platforms, so people could easily click their name right next to the song title and find their entire catalogue. As for the name we originally chose, it was a mistranslation which we got wrong and we are very sad it happened like this. We’re more than happy to switch the name back to the original title, as well as include the band name on the artwork.

Sadly we decided to pause releasing the track as we don’t want to risk anyone seeing these rumours & not knowing the truth. We don’t want to be known for doing something that portrays us in this way. Ultimately we want to still release it as we love the track so much & we want the original writers to benefit from it too but, we’ll see what the response is here, and time will tell.

We love and respect the people of Somalia & we love your music so much. We hear you & see you. In the meantime, we will be listening to Dur-Dur Band & hoping we can still make this work soon 🙂

All love

Oh wow. That’s good that they changed the title too bc the use of warya was pissing me off. I guess sometimes being a loud community is beneficial
