@Abdalla Any update on the dharoor valley dam?,

Been doing some reading and found the catchment area to be roughly 35,000km in size, making it the second smallest catchment in Somalia. Since it's one of the smallest it should be easier to build dams, plant trees on all it's tributaries which could help turning the seasonal river into a perennial one, which can be used for farming and turning that desert green.

a river that could span the length of Haadaftimo to Ras hafun

The biggest will hold about 18000 cubic meters of water. That is not a huge amount, but it is free water for decades to come, and is very sustainable. No need for diesel generators, just build it and forget it. It creates a new source of resilience for when times become very tough.

To give you a perspective, 18000 cubic meters is how much water the Juba river dumps in the Indian Ocean every 1.6 minutes. :mindblown:

any updates?

What a waste of water! Someone needs to introduce drip irrigation to farmers in Puntland.
Drip irrigation uses less water and increases crop yield. You can grow tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and grapes.

Some of those Dams are starting to show some fruit.

How do they build these sand-dams? I am pretty sure they will need to know the flow of the water direction and some of the walls do seem a little low in some areas such as carmo or have they determined the rain-water won't rise higher then that or have they determined Carmo don't need to capture water more then that wall height they erected?

I like the idea their spreading the dams around into small to medium sizes rather then having one or two big ones, because rain can happen anywhere and relying on one or two areas is not a good strategic move.

I have no update on the Dharoor valley dam but the mindigale dam in Sanaag is completed and already bearing its fruits.

It's not completed yet but the Dharoor Valley dam is already functioning in catching water.

The 9th dam is near completion. This one is located in Hoodaal, near Garowe

The dam in Lassadawaco in Carmo district is in its final stage.

That's for proving that clown. I was like WTF? :gucciwhat:

He reminds me of this Egyptian guy saying the Nile river starts from the Mediterranean sea. :mjlol:

By the way, the mountain is called Sheikh and it's in the Saxiil region and the water flow ends at Eyl.

:leon:I keep getting proven wrong by Gaas's accomplishments. I was judging him for not making dams and roads, but he has already completed 9 dams.

:ehh:I'm starting to hope he gets reelected.

There's a reason we call him president of development.

He is even beginning to build a lot of roads. He is setting the building blocks of a successful Puntland. My only worry is that the port deal might stain his work. I'm really hoping that it's not as bad as I'm expecting.
