I'm talking about timescale. I'm willing to bet Cushitic and Semitic separated much earlier than Germanic and italic. If you look at the latter two and compare side by side, you see a lot of close Indo-European similarities. Even a novice can see the connection.

I think you're being unfair. Languages develop as a result of cultural and historical progress. For instance, go back thousands of years ago and you'd find Ancient Egyptian and Babylonian to be, not only the most advanced Afro-Asiatic languages, but the most advanced languages in the ancient world. I'm sure eventually Somalis will get their act together and I'm sure we'll have our own cultural and linguistic Renaissance.

Somali is already pretty rich and expressive with fewer words than Arabic, we have a strong poetic tradition.

I genuinely don't understand how using the abjad system is any more cumbersome or inferior than using the Latin script.
If you framed your debate differently, i.e using the Latin script as it is more practical for business, etc. in today's world then what you're saying would be more understandable.
But your entire debate seems to be fixed on the lack of vowels in Arabic script, which isn't much of an issue.

Lol that is basically what Arabic tashkil is and the Arabic way is more efficient since you don't need to write the vowel you just write the symbol above the letter. Also Arabic script uses less space than Latin has almost all Somali letters in it. Overall it's a better fit for somali

It simply is. There are studies showing that Arab children have worse literacy and dyslexic Arabs have it harder even when taking social class into account. It is a dumb system, just like the Chinese script.
