3 Projects Puntland Failed To Complete

@DR OSMAN

stop building more ports, maybe this latest one is too late,

but target strong manucafuring sector and re-exporting market,

make the country a free trade zone, the entire country, let the entrepreneurs do their magic,

sit back and watch the cow go really fat, do not tax yet, let the cow fatten up and grow, then tax later,

somalis try to milk a dying cow- somali's economy is piss poor,

there is no single somali region that has a nail producing factory, we cannot make nails yet want to compete with the world,

Dubai made $145 billion around 2018 just re-exporting, allowing entrepreneurs to ship the goods and negotiate a tax free tariff to be exported to the world,

Bosaso is in a great location, why can you not do that?

puntland needs to think outside the box

I think we should stick with our strengths like livestock and potentially fish and other natural resources. Botswana did the same and is now a middle class country. Let us import all the other cheap shit and stick with what can get us good returns in the long run. Those ports will be used to export livestock efficiently and export camel milk, there is a huge demand all over the world for it and it can cost up to 30$ for a litre in the west.

The Turks need the 'red sea' because the trade traffic doesn't go thru the Indian ocean channel, where Mogadishu is located, it's simply not on the trade corridor and therefore not even an option. China has a military base in Djibouti, they are not interested in the port 4 trade.

Djibouti is the one who is interested in the Ethiopian trade, especially the Ogaden oil, which makes no sense why @Teeri-Alpha doesn't re-route that oil cargo and build road infrastructure in central/western/eastern DDSI and tap into Garacad. Jigjiga being the capital is a nightmare

Turkey has already signed deal with Sudan for Red Sea port.

Puntland's ports are just too remote and are located in a sparsly populated area which require huge investment in infrastructure before it makes sense for anyone else to have any interest.

Puntland cannot even clear the area surrounding Bosaso Port from the buildings and other businesses because they do not have the money to relocate them. It is a catch-22 scenario.

PL like other Somali regions prefer returning to what they know, which is being a port hub. I was reading in the 19th century, this is what PL used to focus, ships from britain and taxing it for transiting Bosaso. The last great age of anything important trade was PL/Egypt frankincense trade, at least them we were producing and re-exporting, but since the 19th century, we became lazy and want to rely on our location for everything.

I hope the port location becomes less important, the more important it remains, the less chance for us to diversify from this shitty politics. Desperation brings out the best in humanity innovation, I hope PL port is starved of investment so this can make them innovate. Remember that's why europe had to innovate due to it's harsh environment and lack of anything else to rely on.

lol, Somaliland is already the only legitimate democracy in Horn of Africa already. We have room to improve but already ahead of Countries like Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Eriteria. The standard is very low in the Horn and you guys should mimic our success like you been doing for the past 20 years.
That being said at least Somaliland held parliamentary and presidential elections compare to Puntland which hasn't done either. Somaliland's Parliamentary are long overdue and insha'Allah they will be held before May 2020.
I have been hearing for a long time that Puntland will have Parliamentary and presidential elections.
Tell me when your country Somalia moves from this selection process to an actual elections like a functioning country.
A region that has no regard for its own constitution is no example to follow.

May 2020 has already passed. I don't blame you for getting mixed up. Even Wikipedia is confused by these fake election dates.
Djdkwjxdj.jpg

Brilliant Puntlander logic showcased above. MP's that were selected once by the people they serve have less power than MP's never elected by the people they claim to represent? By that logic, a virgin has had more sex than someone who had sex once 15 years ago. Go virgins, eh?

Somaliland has had 3 presidential elections were the people voted for, Puntland hasn't even had 1. However, once it has 1 popular at some point in the future, it will be the only legitimate democracy in the Horn of Africa? An incomprehensible level of delusion is required to come to this conclusion, but that's Puntlander logic for you.

I would say lay of the Mary J., but you'd need to be on horse tranquillisers to come up with the above logic.

Waar alaabta fardaha loogu talo galay iska daa, weyku khalkhalsay.
I'm not going to address your strange analogy.

The difference between Somaliland and Puntland is that we don't have a culture of ignoring our own constitution.

Each of Somaliland's three past presidents has illegally extended his term beyond the constitutionally mandated 5-years.
Eisozndndn.jpg

Somaliland should have had 4 presidential elections since 2003 instead of 3. An entire presidential term has disappeared due to repeated term extensions. It's now customary for each president to stretch his term out to 8-years, which is a violation of the constitution.

The President and his wife are also prohibited from doing business, yet Muse Bihi is going even further and illegally seizing the private land of civilians.

The 15-year term of Somaliland's MPs is also illegal.

The only thing Somaliland does right is one person one vote. Everything else is a total gongshow.

Somaliland is many things, but it is not a legitimate democracy.

The cited articles of Somaliland's constitution are below:
Article 83-5: If on the expiry of the term of office of the President and the Vice-President, it is not possible, because of security considerations, to hold the election of the President and the Vice-President, the House of Elders shall extend their term of office whilst taking into consideration the period in which the problems can be overcome and the election can be held. Article 84-1: The President and the Vice-President and their spouses shall not engage in any business activities during their term of office. Article 88-1: The term of office of the President and the Vice-President is 5 years beginning from the date that they are sworn into office. Article 42-1: The period of office of the House of Representatives is 5 (five) years beginning from the date when the Supreme Court declares the electoral results. Article 42-3: If the election of the House of Representatives cannot be conducted because of dire circumstances, the outgoing House shall continue in office until the end of these circumstances and a new House is elected. Dire circumstances are: a wide war, internal instability, serious natural disasters, such as earthquakes, epidemic diseases, (and) serious famines; and shall be determined and resolved by the House of Elders on the proposal of the Council of Government.
Meanwhile in Puntland, the constitution is followed to the letter and elections are regularly held on time, aside from some irregularities in the first few years. Every 5 years in the first few days of January, a new parliamentary term begins and on January 8, a new presidential term begins. This is mandated by our constitution, so instead of treating it like scrawls on a paper, we actually follow it.
Apskkxjfjf.jpg

Puntland's system has been working exceptionally well. Despite Somaliland being 7 years older, they are on their 5th presidential term, while Puntland is on its 6th. The only thing that has been missing is one person one vote.

If Puntland and Somaliland are similar in one regard, it's consistency. Our presidents and parliamentarians have consistently ended their terms on time, while Somaliland's have consistently not. When Puntland does do one person one vote parliamentary elections next year, we will have the only legitimate parliament in the Horn of Africa. And when we finish one person one vote presidential elections on January 8, 2024, we will be the only legitimate democracy in the Horn of Africa.

It might be a little off topic but just wanted to share some thoughts. It's clear democracy isn't working well with Somalis like it isn't working in a lot of Middle Eastern countries. We should find a system that works best for us instead of following these foreign systems that don't benefit us. I understand SL has many clans so they have no choice but to be a democracy but PL should return the monarchy back and govern like they used to back in the historical days but in a modified improved version. Likewise, other regional states don't need an election and can choose what system they want to follow, if they choose a traditional leadership (Ugaas, Garaad, Sultan etc) then that's their choice. Democratic elections is too forced in Somalia, Somalis like to import foreign systems/ideologies without thinking what works best for them.

I agree 100%. I am not 100% a fan of democracy in backward countries. We need to raise up education and IQ levels to around 90-100 before we even think about giving these 68-iqs a right to vote, surely some sort of educational and literacy level needs to be achieved before asking people to think about politics. The other under-estimated thing we are missing is 'wealth'.

It is well known, the wealthier a person is, the more individualistic they become and hence they start to think more better. Finance, and education are very priorities of the government before rolling out democracy to a poor and illerate population, they will resort to voting tribally in the end and we will end up having tribal politics guised in 'parties' like SL. A rushed democracy just gives you a flawed democracy like SL has.

Democracy system is nothing more then a fraud, it's a means for the oligarchs and wealthy to keep the masses in servile servitude by giving off the illusion of choice so they don't revolt against them.

The best way to control the opposition is to become the opposition yourself which is essentially how they play this game, the PM or President is nothing more then a glorified PR guy who takes the fall for them.

When they push for democracy in third world countries it's a means of control and chaos.

They know full well the psychology of these people, they will always vote in a tribal manner against there own self-interest and when you do this, corruption and poverty follows you around like a bad stench.

The issue in Somalia is spiritual and we got the leaders we deserve, if we want better leaders our collective condition has to change and based off on the sort of drivel I see on this thread and the rest of the forum we have a long way to go.

When the entire world today is trying to form unions and superstates, we are talking about further divisions, tribal feudalism, mini-states and city-states which the entire world has moved away from a long time ago.

Such is our collective debased shameful state, yet with these poisoned toxic narrow-minded mind-sets we shamelessly expect a transformation to occur.

This type of poisoned way of thinking is somehing you only find among Somali's in the world, you don't see this with any other group.

It of course comes as no surprise why we happen to rank the worst in every conceivable metric and this thread and forum is a proof of it.

If people criticized there leaders as you did in your opening post and hold them accountable all the time while thinking beyond tribal feudalism, our collective condition would change overnight.

interesting points, then please provide us an alternative system of governance we can use?

at least in a democracy you can vote out your leaders every few years, its not perfect, its a tyranny of the majority and yes its a facade but what is the alternative?

any system will be exploited sooner or later by the elites on the top and thus where there is human nature, humans will corrupt it

only about 10% of Athenians voted or were allowed to vote, then the turn out was only around 20%, how can 20% decide the fate of an entire race, today its around 40-50% in the west

i prefer a dictator who knows his economics and gives me economic freedom, you know, low taxes, low regulation, free trade, free markets rather than just voting and a new elite taking over to deny me economic freedom,

give economic freedom and the rest follows, give me sound money, real money like gold so my money does not get inflated away through inflation like they do with paper money

democracy is tyranny of the majority, its why i like swiss model of local votes for everything, a local referendum, even on taxes, at least its so small you may have a chance to move to another county if they riase taxes,

also those on welfare should be banned from voting, they raise taxes on us working folks and chase us away, ban them, only workers should be allowed to vote or retired folks who used to pay taxes,

No system is going to benefit a collective group of people so rotten at the core and so spiritually dead mired in tribalism, division and corruption with no fear of Allah or the hereafter.

It's the sunnah of Allah that people like these who claim to be Muslims are punished through hardships, poverty, bad leadership, famines, droughts etc as an expiation so that perhaps they might turn back.

For Muslims only bottom up approach works, the top-down approach solution you looking after is something that usually works with the Kufar's only.

Allah does not change the collective condition of a people until they change themselves first.

If these scums were given power and dominion the fasaad they would have caused on this earth would dwarf everyone else, for a starter you would see genocide against certain tribes and the slavery of others.

Hence filth like this are kept poor and downtrodden and there resources are milked by others until there is a spiritual awakening with at least 30-50% of it's people.

The only reason why Somali Galbeed is a bit more ahead is because of the stability that Ethiopia provides, it comes as no surprise it's people (Ethiopian's) are much better then ours, had Somali Galbeed been part of Somalia, it would have been a shit hole like the rest.

The fact that you are proud and boastful about tribal lineage as a Muslim is a manifestation of the worst forms of Jaahiliya

What makes Somali's the worst of the worst is that usually the impoverished and the destitute are known for there humility, but somehow we remain arrogant and boastful.

Every other nation when turmoil is brewing use Somalia as a case study to their own people to warn them, and that include third world countries like Brundi and Algeria.

The bottom up approach project starts with us first, but when someone as educated as you and @DR OSMAN talk about tribal states, mini-states, city-states and tribal feudalism, what hope do we have for the uneducated desert dwelling impoverished geeljire ?

Thank you brother inquisitive fro yuor wise thoughts it is something i shall ponder upon it,

I was not a tribalist, I fought the habashi alone and was trying to get back my land until somalis from putnland, galgadud, djibouti and somaliland back stabbed me and killed my king and i said what is your problem, i am fighting gallow, i have not attacked puntland or djibouti or hargeysa, why do you back stab me and they were boastful, that is when i became tribalsitic and saw the somalis have hatred and ill will towed me even worse than the habashi, at least the habashi is a gaal and knows i will never accept the British handing my land over or the Russians helping them get it back in 1977, but somalis were deep down rooting for my downfall and feared an OG state that is free, hence why they shot me in The back as i Fought dirty habash inside my land,

i saw many somalis boast and celebrate when farmajo did that to my uncle qalbidigax,

so forgive me if somali-nimo has done me little benefits , in fact they have more harm to me than anyone else,

i can throw cheap insults at you, i think you have misjudge but there is no benefit from insulting you, for you seem like a wise man, all i ask is that you differentiate me and them for they back stabbed me as i shot the habash, they had a choice not to kill and attack me, specially since i did not harm them,

so be fair in admonishment

If Puntland achieves its goals and continues its tradition of on-time elections, only Somalilanders will think it's behind Somaliland, which is completely fine with me because it means you'll continue delaying your parliamentary elections for another 15 years.

The most disappointing thing in that list is Bosaso Port, which is also an important historical port. It was used historically to import and export incense among other things in the 100000s of kilos.

Abdiweli Gaas literally took the worst deal possible for a port that can get a much better deal.

This is coming from a Lander, let that sink in.... SL has no choice but to get a bad deal since we are literally an illegal state.

Puntland is a fully autonomous legal federal state of Somalia. Pay the Somali government "shut up" money and get rich from your port.

I expect better @Abdalla I know you know this is true. You should change profile pic....

Shut up

I merely pointed out that Somaliland is the only Somali democracy in the last 50 years to have a popular election. Get some remedial reading lessons before you start debating topics far beyond your comprehension levels.

Even if Puntland has one election in the future, it's democracy will still be far behind Somaliland. By that point Somaliland will have had NUMEROUS popular elections, which have all been universally praised by the international community as being free and fair. Puntland has a lot of catching up to do.

I had to laugh at this. A constitution ratified by its people, but used as toilet paper by its leaders is light-years ahead of a constitution that is followed to the letter (which is the whole point of constitutions)?

You don't know how a constitution works do you? What 5 illiterate old men talked about under a tree has no relevance. The people of Puntland had no part in that. It has no democratic value. Donald Trump flouts the US constitution all the time. However, the power of the US constitution does not diminish by it, because it represents the will of the people. Before your reading comprehension fails you again, I am not comparing the US and Somaliland, merely highlighting the representative nature of a constitution.
