Darod "flocked" to Siad Barre AFTER they had been targeted by USC.
The experience of being killed and driven out of Mogadishu by the USC was what so angered all the Darod sub-clans that they put aside their political differences and united to fight back.
Had the USC not systemically killed innocent Darod people, like the anti-Barre, pro-democracy activist Dr. Abyan, Barre would have received very little support from Darod, who were fed up with him as much as anybody else (A lot of the anti-Barre insurgent groups were Darod, like SSDF, SPM, etc).
Even Marexan was split into two factions, with one faction refusing to back Barre.
USC was ruthless and shortsighted and very incompetent. They made a bad situation incomprehensibly worse.
I am in the moment mailing with the author of clan cleansing in somalia

I agree with @waters, the USC should have done more to avoid the clan cleansing. I wont lie, my people have never liked the Darood, but the tribal problems should have always remained political. Dadka qabiil loo dilaayo was a major blunder and i dont blame them for holding deep animosity.

My greatest unless we're both full colonels head of 21st division, both fought were leading war against Ethiopia, later killed in battle zone by Hawiye, so don't tell me guys Hawiye were innocent too, they commit horrible crime against Daroods, specially Marehan.

I let my mother read this and she agrees. My mother just told me he used to execute students on the streets, students that were demonstrating. Maka Mokrama is the name of the street that Siad Barre executed students on. He also created a curfew between 4 and 5 in the afternoon no one was allowed to walk freely in Xamar. He was horribly.
No one executed them but angry soldier shot them view, these students were dominated AUN. Majority were mixed students from Darood, Hawiye, isaaq and Dir, the youth wasn't happy Bare's admin somehow.
About the curfew: It was SNM who flee to Mogadishu were trying to interrupt the government and the government has a right defend themselves whoever try to harm them, that is why sometimes were curfew. That is it.
Question:
Yaa Somali xukumo oo madaxa katumin, ma iisheegi kartaa?

Siad Barre is not a hero or a great military leader. Somalis should blame him for uncountable disasters, killings and rapes. He destroyed many somali cities and killed a lot of of innocent Issaqs. He is the main responsible for the present somali chaos and disorder. If he resigned as a president in 1978, Somalia would have never become in a hell on earth.

He made several mistakes at Ogaden War management and those mistakes caused Somalia defeat.
