Are you gonna be a laggard?

I've always been suspicious. And I keep a low profile on social media (for now), Alx. :faysalwtf:The post of the article convinced me. I honestly think to be a laggard means being 'freer' which resonates with me. Technology comes from the top-down. It's obvious that it's rolled out for some reason (normally positioned to influencers or celebrity endorsers and is then trickle down to the masses). All with the intention of creating more homogeneity of thoughts/ideas.

The internet is weird as is. You have these little cyber eco-chambers where people dox individuals that don't agree with them.

Thats exactly how we were programmed to be, we are the first generation (millenials to grow up with handheld tech/video games etc. We were the test subjects, the kids born between 2010-2020 are known as Gen. Alpha, they are the generation being prepared for the Singularity. Look it up you'll be shocked to find out the truth.
Don't worry. Murphy's law.

How you can make money from it (or put yourself in the best position) should be your main worry. Though singularity is up for debate, it might not happen, and if it happens, not in our lifetime.

Technological singularity will not be as easy as extrapolating exponential growth curve like Moores Law, which the guy who proposed this theory did. Singularity explains technological growth it too linearly when it's complex.

It might happen, but not in a long time.

I think the cyborg is the best-positioned in your hierarchy. They have their humanity to them, but are upgraded and modified in the traits we value using technology. Being a laggard doesn’t make as much sense in that framework. Freedom is an illusion. I’m sure their lives would suck big time.

What if it becomes mandatory to chip yourself or risk FEMA camp style execution. Would you succumb?

I suppose the laggards are fear motivated and believe opting into the system will mean a possibility of greater control over them. Instead of being subtly influenced by external stimuli they can be internally manipulated with a steady stream of uninterrupted messaging (if they choose to coalesce with the machine).

Life would be more challenging but we rarely miss what we never had to begin with. Though it's possible to long for what you don't have because of constant social appraisal with others.

Anyway, it appears the lags have high levels of group trust and connectedness (which keeps them emotionally afloat despite their social location) while the cyborgs are more so atomized, self-focused and detached. This is balanced out by a repository of emotional states they can draw upon to self-soothe when they become dispirited, all mediated by tech.

That right there is a catch-22.:siilaanyolaugh: Would I really die for my values? Who knows? I haven't been placed in such a high-pressure situation. I would say, self-preservation is best in this scenario. Maybe I'll find a whizkid in the camp that can successfully dislodge the chip implant.

What would you do?

You need to post more scenarios, Tek. Your mind as a techno-pessimist is a wonderland of atrocities.

I predict that natural birth will be outlawed or become highly politicized like abortion by the end of this century. In China or the West (more likely China) they will likely enforce AI-controlled embryo selection and usage of artificial wombs. People who give birth the natural way will likely be viewed like anti-vaxxers are today.

Something like GATTACA and Black Mirror (social control) will be the future rather than a rogue AI who kills off humanity.

I can believe that. I’d imagine it’d be deemed more unnecessarily dangerous/careless when compared to an artificial womb, which could be optimized for every positive metric vs a natural womb. It would probably be considered child abuse to have a natural birth lol.

I can’t lie, that sounds like a dream when I think about the hardships of pregnancy. Pregnancy is scary.

The above has other implications though:

It would follow that women who aren’t gestating wouldn’t need to undergo periods, so they’d likely develop a way to get rid of that “side effect” of womanhood.

@sophisticate Soph, only lags would have periods.

It would follow that men would probably take something to stop cumming as a way to get rid of that “side effect” of manhood and to eliminate the possibility of uncivilized pregnancies in wild.

As another measure, everyone’s eggs and sperm would be culled/collected on schedule and stored in industrial laboratories.

Sex would be purely recreational.

AI would pick your perfect spouse because our human brains are irrational, selecting down to the genome for “favorable” traits, and “fixing” whatever is “unfavorable”.

Everything will be gray, probably.

Edit: I’ve been meaning to watch Gattaca.

You all think too much about the future but are desensitized to the present. They already monitor everything we do. The world is, always has been and always will be a terrible place but there is always the element of good to be found. Just stay connected to Allah ( swt) and live your life. Don’t get too pessimistic or worried.

Im a hardcore realist, I hate using the term conspiracy theorist it was invented by the CIA we are heading into Brave New World like the aithor predicted, they are already naming children born 2010+ Alpha generation

What they’re naming them is irrelevant, and a superficial fear, bc the naming convention is on that trend. Just look what the others are called:

Greatest/Silent Generation—> [Baby] Boomers—> Generation X —> Generation Y (Millenials) —> Generation Z—> Generation Alpha.

If the pattern persists, we can guess the one after Alpha will probably be Alpha+, or perhaps Beta. But that’s no reason for concrete fear.
