I was there this summer water shortage is still the same you its ridicilous really
That sucks. I hope that they come with a solution to the problem soon. But it also may be a difficult problem that requires big funding for projects on infrastrcture that may be dificult to start without the help of foreign companies and alot of work based on where the nearest watersuply is. And since Somaliland is not yet recognied by the international community, it does not get any legal support or loans like any other soverign country, to build it's basic infrastructure.

My theory is people back home are slightly jealous of us qurbo joog. 1) They think we live lavish lifestyles 2) You have the freedom to go anywhere whereas a lot of them are stuck. 3) Girls their slightly fancy guys who are from abroad4) You would have had better opportunities 5) Usually your more financially better of then the average Somali person.

They've got a lot of things but people die to get abroad so I think lowlkey they hate that you can guy just get up and go where ever you please.

LOL at finding vimto. Walahi it didn't even taste too bad. Even the plastic burgers are alright when their freshly made but most of the time not great for our immune system and been there for over a day.

They have the best hiliib geyl in suuqa hoose and caano geyl also freshly poured. Yeah not many architects in the past, there was 1 guy in the early 2000, now several guys who profiting from it.

Theirs a lot of opportunities back home. You need to go out there and see what's missing. I met a guy their from UK with flower company who does well. It's a simple idea but.its working for him
Yes, the burger i ate was the one on the counter, so by common sense i believe it was there for over a month as a model and that guy completly fucked me over by giving me that one, instead of making a new one. I want to taste caano vimto, is it something you buy from the shop, or you make it by mixing vimto and milk?

The food was great there, i loved it!

While we are on the subject on architecture and flowers, i believe the state should put in place a replantement program where we get good seeds from other countries and plant them in the soil and grow different type of trees, bushes and plants. The place would look much better after some years.

Yeah they tend to do that. Best to eat their after dhuhr and ask if it's fresh. Theirs one place called maka al mulkarama, they were the best to buy from. Theirs is fresh. Lol they have the coono vimto in one of them slurpy machines and they pour it for you. I hinn they just mix vimto or another drink with caano but it might be powdered milk. And they let it get cold before serving it.

It's worth trying. Right I give them their props. My fav dish their was there xaniid and rice in a restaurant called rabiic Al awal.

Unfortunately hargeisa doesn't get much rain. But I agree, to be honest they should train farmers so they can improve in agriculture. Educate them on crops and animals, also the roads really need. To be focused on and recycling is still an issue.

HAHhhaha. I completly forgot that it never rains there. But i think there is certain trees that live on little water, palm trees and such. And good point on educating the farmers. Im og going to remember that restaurant, i love tasting new stuff

So I've been back home, I've seen how people's mentality. Some are neutral towards qurbo joog and have a positive outlook and some can't stand the look of them. Not gonna lie some qurbo joog just give the rest a bad reputation. They go their for bashaal, get waved, chase girls and bring their ciyaal suuq mentality.

After speaking to some of the locals their and the police. I got the impression some just see us as guests, I've even had some Somali suggest if you don't know the language. You might as well not be Somali.

I want to hear your opinions. Do you think they frown upon us, is it down to jealousy?
okay i agree and disagree with you at the same time. i will tell you my experience. i Spend most of my time in Bosaso and Galkayo. i been coming to somalia a couple of years now on and off. when i first came i never spoke a word of somali. i still am not that very good. the somali language is the hardest language in the world my opinion. but i get treated better than the locals. i can get in anywhere without getting searched. i have the respectfull diaspora look. i might be young but i just give out that entreupenuer look and i get respected everywhere i go but at the same time the elders when dealing with them in business always like to use the "he doesnt know our culture: excuse whenever i dont agree with their business tactics. for example i was selling a piece of land and the owner of the land next to mine thaught because i was a young diaspora he could take advantage so he got close to my land and started building. every house has to have atleast a meter inbetween them and he decided to take that meter for himself. well i spoke to him and he lied and told my uncles that this foreigner doesnt know our language and culture and that i was lying. so i drove ovver to my land the next day and broke down what he started building. he shit talking cost him like 200 bux. lool and he never tried to get close to my land again.

It's not throughout hargeisa though right. Is it even in West of Hargeisa? Thought they would've sorted this out by now
I dont know but its very widespread I mean Every other day theres no water sometimes when Im outside boqol iyo koontonka I hear the adhaan so I go to the mosque to do wuduu and theres no water.... I go to another mosque same problem again I end up missing the prayer

Im unaware IF its true but I heard the population in hargeisa was 750k but over the years its gone up to 1 million and since the water wasnt enough for everyone they started sharing it between areas instead of coming up with a better solution

I remember they had the same problem back in 2013. I saw trucks with water tanks driving from other cities into hargeisa.

You are also point to a big problem where they don't have enough water, but the pupulation is rising very fast. And as i've said earlier, it is a solution that needs big funding from the government and would cost so much that the current national budget can't sustain. Normally other countries would just borrow money from each other to fix these issues, but SL is not recognized and must fix the problem themselves.

Well apparently ethiopia earns 500 million from khat and Somalia is theyre biggest buyer and the way people eat khat in SL I think most of the money they make is from SL

So why not with the tax sales from khat use them for development that should cover it

I've been to Somaliland as a kid, and my impression is that they still see you as Somali, but you're still kinda foreign to them. They may make fun of you for not knowing the language or the customs, but it's not really that serious.
I blame the parents for not teachinh kid their mother tongue kid need to be teach the somali language by their parent but they say they will lear how the they will leanr when you dont teach them how fk english kids lear english they goto fkink school the teachers will teach but when it come to somalis it isparent fault for teaching them or putting somali school in diasparo to their language they toi stupid to do tht they just they will learn it how the fk you learn language otr write when they dont goto school

That is a good plan, but is it even legal? If the sale on khat is not recognised as a legal business by law, then the government can't put any tax on it. And khat dealers would have to sign in as an official bussniness to be taxed, which i doubt they would do willingly.

I dont know much about the khat business but theyre making millions and I doubt they gonna stop one Guy bought his own plane and it comes to SL filled with khat

I know. We consume much khat per capita, and it is a lucrative bussniess that will not stop so people should monopolize to make it grow. And the governemt should criminalize individual sale if they are not officially signed in as a small bussiness so they can make tax based on earnings. That is how the west deals with alchohol and other vices.

Like maybe if the state put a fine on people that sells khat in the black market and make it harder for them through such obstacles, so people find it more beneficiary to sign is a small business owner and pay a small percent of his earnings as tax to the state. This is acually a basic move that every state uses to benefit from the existing trends.

Problem though is how do they know how Much people make from tax earnings you could easily have a second account where you store your mobile money on and if its cash in hand earnings you could tell them you been struggling this month

Theres no income thats put on computer

That is a good point. A weird solution would be that the government partake in the process somehow, where they have like an intermediate barriers between the producer and the distrubitor so they know roughly how much khat an indiviudal owner buys, and calculate from the sales somehow? And make it mandatory for a khat dealer to document and inform how much he sells, compared to what he has left. Then the government knows how much he got from the producer and how much he sold, and they can more or less make a calculated guess on how much he needs to pay every month on tax. You have to put certain regulatory laws in place for such thing to happen though. Making it illegal to sell the substance without government regulation is a good way to start.

Another tricky thing would be to adjust the market price for khat. All in all they need competent economist to make a good practical working model that is based on data and such.

I agree with you somewhat. The parents should encourage the kids to learn Somali and speak it. In the household. But it's easy to put the blame on them. Personally the kids are somewhat to blame also. Like one friend of mine, he understands Somali but he can not speak a word of it. I've proposed to teach him but he's not interested.

He's in awe at the fact I know the language but I told him the problem is he conversates English to his family. Were as in my household its Somali. But its never to late to learn.

Yeah water is huge problem back home. But we have to acknowledge the draught. Here in the UK we have abundance of water. Back their unfortunately that's not the case. I've always said whoever makes a water meter back home will make a fortune.

Once this is introduced to everyone access to water, they can use that money towards improving the accesabilty.
