Why is the Shabaab only in the South of Somalia?

Burco is full of Al Shabab supporters, some openly. It was the biggest hub for Al Itihad in the 90s and 2000s outside of Marehan and Ogaden areas. There was a training camp there. Burco is where Al Itihad top brass hid when they were under attack in Puntland and Isaaq K5 areas. They had a presence all over Somaliland in fact, as west as Awdal with a training camp there. The so called government at the time didnt care.

Al Shabab and their sympathizers are crawling all over K5 and Somaliland. They are sleeper agents. They are planning to take over when they capture the south.

I heard SL is a hub for shabab top leadership, in-fact I read somewhere SL pays them off also. Their is no question when under attack in PL mountains, they find refuge and at times assistance in SL. For example they do coordinated war fronts on PL with SL and Shabab being one alliance.

Al-Shabaab is a mercenary, death squad group that does the bidding of whomever that paid them the most. It is very decentralized group, so different commanders do as they see fit without their leadership not aware of what the lower rank commanders are doing.

Foreign powers such as UAE, UK, and others have their hands deep in this group. When the TPLF was in power in Ethiopia, they also had their hands deep in Al-Shabaab.

Now, to blame it on any group or region in Somalia/Somaliland is disingenuous in my view. Most of the assassinations in Galkacayo, Bosaso, and Lasanod are carried out by UGUS. And that should tell you this monster is all over the country.

That assasination hasn't happened since 'farole' time. Deni cleaned up Galkacyo which was the last hold out. Plus they don't control anything in PL like the south, they come hiding in PL, like they did in Uganda, Kenya. PL is a robust state dude, they can't control our land.

I never said they control PL; they don't and never did. They do carry out killings though such as the last ones that happened in Galkacayo and the prison raid in Bosaso.

The point that I was trying to get out is Al-Shabaab is a mercenary outfit who does the bidding of whomever pays them the most. Their targeted assassination against Turkiye citizens in Mogadishu and their attack on Ex-Control Afgoye that killed hundreds of people were all attributed to UAE using them to carry out those attacks due to the rivalry between UAE and Turkiye in Somalia.

Their attacks on Kenyan Safari telecom establishment inside Kenya's North Eastern province were also attributed to rivalry between Hormuud and Safari telecoms in Jubbaland and border areas between Somalia and Kenya.

Their attacks in hotels located in Mogadishu were also attributed to business rivalries between different businessmen in Mogadishu and also political meetings held in those hotels that opposing groups don't like.

So when you sum it all up, you can get a picture that this is a criminal syndicate group who thrive on extortion, racketeering, and gun-for-hire.

If that was the case calmadow mountains, sheikh mountain and gabiley to wajaale would have been perfect place for alsheydaan.
These places are mountainous, lush green & extremely fertile land, percent for insurgent group like alsheydaan.
These areas of the north are also next to the red sea perfect for piracy and arms smuggling.
Adan Sune was literally in jail and was released by his Arab sub clan under 2 conditions to abandon his radicalism or just go to South and do his stuff there.
:reallymaury:So killing its ok to you.

Al Shabaab only had Isaaq and Dir. i'ts founder is isaaq his name is ismaciil caraale lives now in Hargeysa their second Amir was Isaaq Ahmed Godane, Current one is Dir Ahmed Diiriye his potential successor Nadiir was Dir he got assassinated by the US now there is Isaaq one who replaced Nadiir as Ahmed diiriye's successor he was released from SL prison to lead Al Shabaab

This is because Bixii jails them when they bring up their weird ideologies and rules with an iron fist. Southerners like you are hypocrites considering you support the release of a man who had arsenal ideas for Hargeisa. He was also seen hanging out with a Adan Sunni. Now tell me, is it our fault for gunning down and jailing niggas who wish to blow us up to smithereens?

Eastern Galgadud and South-Eastern Mudug, parts of Gedo/Lower Jubba South of the River, Eastern Hiiraan and some non-riverine areas of Middle Shabelle have been AS strongholds for more than a decade. Even Bay and Bakool areas where the terrain isn't necessarily suitable for guerilla warfare are AS friendly.

It ain't about Geography but the simple fact that the populace of the South became ripe for Kebab indoctrination due to the Civil War chaos, Mooryanimo, lack of strong Xeer traditions, clan injustices, interest groups that benefit from a lack of governance etc. A child born after 2005 in areas AS have controlled since 2010 is gone with the Irhabi Wind. Many clans will have to have their young culled like how Genghis killed all males of a certain age to prevent future Fitna within the Mongol ethnic group.
There is abundant water and a serious lack of proper roads making conventional forces bottlenecked for entire seasons of the year. The south is much greater suited for guerilla warfare then the north.

Bay Bakool Hiraan and Middle Shabelle are secondary interests to AS. They only need a small presence to continue taxing the traffic on roads and some space as insulation for their real home. Their crown jewels are Middle Jubba as a safe space, Lower Shabelle as a recruitment base and farm produce hub, and Benadir for its revenue. Notice how AS is reliant on mainly the Dir homeland and Hawiye capital. Its clear why they choose Dir leadership

This is basically the reality of how it is on the ground. Middle Jubba, Lower shabelle and Banadir is what they survival depends on

The areas I highlighted are predominately not suitable for guerilla warfare. Obviously there is more vegetation the further South ones travels but it is riverine territories in Lower/Middle Jubbas and Shabelles which I had not referenced that are ideal places for waging guerilla warfare. I do not dispute that their centre of operations is in Middle Jubba, however, it would be folly to ignore their ubiquitous support among Somalis in more open terrain territories far from their leadership base.

As for them being based in the 'Dir homeland', this is incorrect as the only Dir dominated areas they have a heavy presence is Jammaame District which is not their centre of operations. Jilib district is, and only the smaller area East of the River is Dir majority. Even in Lower Shabelle, many of the Biimaal, not their Bantu former slaves, are pastoralists that heavily inhabit the coastal area from Dhanane, below Gendershe, to Northern parts of Barawe district. This is not AS's main area of operations in the district even though they do exert control in places like Jilib Marka. AS's main centre of operations in Lower Shabelle is in Digil majority areas as exemplified by the fact that their LS/Mogadishu Court is based in Torotorow.
