US reimposes arms embargo on .So in National Emergency Exec. order # 13536

Has anyone actually read the post? It doesn't mention the US enforcing an arms embargo at all. It's just about extending the state of emergency in Somalia. This means that Somalia is still not safe for travel due to various reasons mentioned in the press release. The only embargo mentioned is related to charcoal exports to cut off income for Al-Shabaab.

I mean, this is just blatantly fake news, I hope it's just a reading error on your part and not the knowing dissemination of fake news.

The US does have an arms embargo on Somalia but licenses and approvals can be granted on a case-by-base basis for use by AMISOM, UN, FGS etc.

There isn't actually an arms embargo in place. A complete arms embargo, as enforced by the UN, prohibits any country from providing or selling weapons to any group within a specific jurisdiction. In 2013, Somalia had the restriction on small arms removed, and last year, the arms embargo was completely lifted. This theoretically allows Somalia to purchase heavy weapons from any nation.

The screenshots you've received are related to United States domestic laws concerning how to address arms shipments from Somalia.

Hypothetical speaking, Somalia could go on and buy a bunch of tanks and planes from Kazakhstan if they so wish, under an arms embargo that simply isnt possible.

An embargo is: "an official ban on trade or other commercial activity with a particular country."

This whole thread is about a US arms embargo not a UN arms embargo, so you are right that Somalia can go to other parties without restrictions.

The policy I posted is the US arms embargo on Somalia. It relates to imports and exports. Somalia's inclusion in the ITAR likely derives from "whenever an export of defense articles or defense services would not otherwise be in furtherance of world peace and the security and foreign policy of the United States". More strict embargoes are in place for Eritrea and Ethiopia.

Here is the US policy for Eritrea:
