It's time Gamudug and Hiiraan State make a deal with Ethiopia

Hopefully I don’t know why but Somalia has struggled to win major share of Ethiopian market so far. Berbera till this day with hundreds of millions in investment cant even get 10%. And forecast makes it seem like it will be case for long time that djibouti will dominate market share

A report on the last three months of the current budget year showed 94.5 percent of Ethiopia’s imports passed through the Djibouti port; three percent was handled at Berbera, 1.5 percent at Tadjoura, and 0.87 percent at Moyale corridor

Berbera will go from 3 million to 18 million

Djibouti from 20.2 million in 2016 to 109 million in 2050

Something doesn’t add up. Berbera port is under construction now, but after they finish, their capacity will exeede that of port of Djibouti. Despite that, they will only handle a fraction of the trade volume of Djibouti port?!?

The Port of Djibouti Container Terminal has a handling capacity of 350 000 TEU Per annum.

DP World has committed to investing up to US$442 million to expand the port, and once completed it will increase capacity by 500,000 TEUs per year.

Good catch It’s strange. It might be that they are taking into account all of Djibouti’s port not sure. They seem to think Djibouti will dominate I know rail systems also give them leg up and cuts 3 day truck trip into 20 hours . Gotta be alot of money saved

Eritrea and ethiopia have many tigrayans . They will eventually have to reconcile and allow people movement and trade to return as they are same people. Both countries hurting each other to spite the other since 1998. Ethiopia losing billions to somalis in djibouti and asab port losing its biggest customer
No Tigrayans in Eritrea. Biher Tigrinya and Tigrayans are to closely related but separate ethnic groups. As it stands, the two groups will not reconcile for the next couple of decades. It’s a blood feud that predates 1998 by at least a century

Do you guys speak same language ? Also will Eritrea in forsable future give access to port duty free like in the past to Ethiopia? It seems Ethiopia ended trade in past and maybe wants to come back is door shut?

Same language yes. It would be good for Ethiopia to pay tariffs to access Assab but as it stands I want to see them bleed while they’re desperate

They're the same people with same damn culture :ftw9nwa:
Reductive to say so. The difference is akin to Serbs and Montenegrins however there are genetic differences between Tigrinya and Tigrayans.

Identity doesn’t just arise from thin air

Reer Puntland managed to build Garacad port without begging Ethiopia. why am I seeing people from Awdal begging Ethiopia to come to Zeila?

With all due respect I disagree with you 🙂 and no way I'm calling for Woyane Agazi fantasy state 😂

All these fake wadanis who are attacking Awdal offering a port to Ethiopia are jealous of it's close proximity to Ethiopia they wish they can do the same 🤣🤣

There should be economic integration between the Sister States of Galmudug and Hiiraan State and have a trade relations with Ethiopia. Turkey will have a military base soon in hobyo to train the central SNA in there they will use the port for importation so this will be good to develop it.

Who pays for Hiiraan now we fund our Macawisley who offer better security service than JL?
Everything depends on the good governance and accountability. You have Ahmed Madobe who takes $80k from every Ship that lands Kismayo port let alone the illegal charcoal and business even Kenyans import from Kismaayo port(contraband)

does it reflect on the livelihood of the people in Kismaayo let alone other towns? Everything in Kismayo was built with external funding, not local. There is good accountability in Hiiraan and the war on Ali Jeyte is because his adminstration collects the taxes and not Dabageed. Who was managing the flood projects? Gudiga Fatahaada supported by the people not Hiiraan Adminstaration or Waare. We have good guys whom we trust them like Haji Dhagaxow because of the accountability even Jeyte was not managing this file.

Three Moons

Give Dhul-Suwayqatayn not an inch of the Sea!
When Farmaajo was at the helm of Somalia he was planning on a multi-port deal with Ethiopia, and because he represented the Federal government he would get the most favorable terms for the locals during negotiations. This is something no regional government can even come close to achieving because they are already negotiating from a position of weakness (i.e they need Ethiopia) and the latter can pick and choose which port it wants, what rates to pay and how long it will lease them because they come as individual propositions instead of the multiport package Farmaajo planned that would have included roads and a potential rail link.

Unfortunately HSM doesn’t seem to have any strategic depth in his governance and tenure. He is just absent, so I foresee terrible deals for individual Somali ports, which will be accessed for pennies on the dollar.

All these laughing at this thread are the Daaroods and Ironically the Ethiopian Ogaadeens who are afraid of Dir competition in DDS(Dir-Oromo Coalition) under the disguise of "Wadaniyad"

Relax guys we are not joining Ethiopia this is economic integration

Only Daarood Social media are attacking Awdal with their usual fake wadaniyad they fear Dir competition in DDS and more ports 🤣🤣

Most of Ethiopian trade comes from ports in Djibouti and recently Berbera as well. Adding Awdal will only lead to more competition between Dirs and not Daroods :ftw9nwa:
