It's time Gamudug and Hiiraan State make a deal with Ethiopia

All these fake wadanis who are attacking Awdal offering a port to Ethiopia are jealous of it's close proximity to Ethiopia they wish they can do the same 🤣🤣

There should be economic integration between the Sister States of Galmudug and Hiiraan State and have a trade relations with Ethiopia. Turkey will have a military base soon in hobyo to train the central SNA in there they will use the port for importation so this will be good to develop it.

100% I agree Ustaad, why can't we make deal with our neighbour Ethiopia when every other states like somaliland and puntland is doing it.

Having good relations with Ethiopia central government is crucial for our economical developments.

And also Ustaad tell more information on this Hobyo Turkey-SNA headquarter being built there, I heard this also from the Hobyo mayor saying that SNA will built a HQ there.

who has a deal with ethiopia? Most somali ports have deal with dubai, china, or turkey
1697426877599.png

90% of ethiopia trade comes through djibouti port where its connected by rail system and world class port. it will be hard to win market share from djibouti who is spending hundreds of millions to maintain market share and get additional business from places like congo who have very small access to sea, there is reason djibouti has 7 ports. Ethiopia before war used to get 70% of material through aseb (eritrea) and rest djibouti who has always been major partner. Ethiopia wants aseb port back they have same culture history and people.

But i do agree with you each FMS should at least have 1 port to import materials and even export things like livestock and manufacturing goods one day. somalia big country why drive hundreds of miles to another port. The best bet is to sign deals with worldbank who give favorable loans and you own port like we used to in the past. Second best option is dubai china or turkey they will want major ownership for like 30 years due to how risky somalia business environment is they want big pay off. Ethiopa doesnt offer anything they are this week begging west and china to forgive old loans so they can borrow money. ethiopans waa gajo gajo dhalay

Hiiraan is strategically important to Ethiopia. Unlike Awdal, it has been included in the Ethiopian transport master plan released in 2022 and was considered as a future access corridor. Border crossing was also marked just south of Beledweyne. This master plan could materialise by 2050 which is the year Ethiopia has set out to achieve it. That's if Ethiopia really wants to diversify.

If you play your cards right then there'll be good returns.

eithiopia will never run of ports they can make a deal with, they're expected to have a massive population of 200 million soon.

every man who has access to the coast should be building ports and cutting deals.

Eritrea and ethiopia have many tigrayans . They will eventually have to reconcile and allow people movement and trade to return as they are same people. Both countries hurting each other to spite the other since 1998. Ethiopia losing billions to somalis in djibouti and asab port losing its biggest customer

just assab isn't enough bro, this country will soon be in top 10 most populous, one port won't be nearly enough.

Yes but if they cut deal they can built many more ports. Djibouti getting rich off Ethiopia with 90% of trade going through there. It has 7 ports now ,a rail system, roads ... Eritrea been stuck due ethiopia cutting it off which was idiotic because Eritrea didn't even charge them taxes to maintain good relations

Ethiopia are diversifying from Djibouti. Their plans are to use ports from Mombasa port all the way to the port of Sudan.

They are currently building the LAPSSET corridor, with yet another railway line that go from Lamu-Garissa-Nairobi-Moyale to Addis. They've also spent resources on improving road infrastructure reaching Djibouti ports, Berbera port and now with Garaacad port as well. Abiy also mentioned how he will improve ties with Eritrea and open up the borders to increase trade through Eritrean ports, especially Assab and Massawa.

Somalia needs to do the same and build more ports to re-direct Ethiopian trade through their borders instead of letting their neighbors have monopoly. After all, there are Somalis in Ethiopia that we can take advantage off.

It will be a branch of Camp TURKSOM in Galmudug but this time it will include Navy and military vessels.

Yes they want to start open competition to lower prices as djibouti taxes them crazy. But the issue is long distances from somalia to ethipia major trade hubs like addis abbaba. Somalia can provide cheap taxes and ports but major cost will be the long journey to ethiopa on truck since we dont have rail systems. Plus our fuel costs pretty high i think this plus safety risk what passes through somalia negligible.

A report on the last three months of the current budget year showed 94.5 percent of Ethiopia’s imports passed through the Djibouti port; three percent was handled at Berbera, 1.5 percent at Tadjoura, and 0.87 percent at Moyale corridor

True, but outside of the metropolitan Addis area, the second largest concentration of people in Ethiopia are the cities of Dir Dhaba-Harar-Jigjiga and the corridor through Hararghe and Faafan. This is what northern Somali ports can benefit from.

The newly expanded Berbera port means that Djibouti will loose out on a significant trade volume, but if Awdal builds a port too, then they all have to compete to gain strategic advantage of the market like lowering taxes and other incentives.

But in general, as long as we have the resources to maintain ports, then we're not loosing out on anything by building as many as possible. Depending on how much demands there are, some ports will be smaller while others will be larger.

Hopefully I don’t know why but Somalia has struggled to win major share of Ethiopian market so far. Berbera till this day with hundreds of millions in investment cant even get 10%. And forecast makes it seem like it will be case for long time that djibouti will dominate market share

Berbera will go from 3 million to 18 million

Djibouti from 20.2 million in 2016 to 109 million in 2050
