I am having this debate with somalilanders who are claiming that bosaso is located in the south of the country.

Culturally/linguistically/polically koonfur

Thats all that matters

northernMudug is South part of the south just like Southern Mudug so if Boosaaso hates the south so much then they have to seperate themselves from northernMudug. There is no difference between southernGalkaacyo and northernGaalkacyo

How is it southern culturally exactly? the ppl there are a lot closer culturally/linguistically to the waqooyi than they are to ppl in south west region for example.

Calturally, linguistically and politicaly reer bosaso are related to reer laascaanood and reer laasqoray .

There's no such thing as "southern" culture, you can only get an idea of one if you exclude jubbaland/central/puntland. Bosaso is just considered southern politically and that was during colonial/statehood days, but this was at a time when all somalis in the country pivoted to the south (xamar, kismayo), but thats no longer the case ofc but the word has stuck amongst waqooyi ppl. Most somalis just call it bari.

Mudug is still northeastern region geographicaly, and majertens and hawiye in mudug don't intermarry each other so there's a cultural and linguistical gab betwen north and south mudug.

Bosaso is technically more north than Hargaisa, politically Bosaso is looking to Mogadishu but that can be said about Buhoodle as well. the culture argument is fake news, Somali culture has small variants perhaps it can be summed up in differences in accents and Bari has unique Rer Bari accent, there is no common southern accent, unless you think all the south sound like Rer Xamar.

Buhoodle is an Ethiopian-SL border village.Stay of out SL & Ethio affairs hunter-gatherer and focus on Kismayo

If bosaso is in bari berbera is galbeed
Traditionally Somalis have generally referred to Majeerteenia most commonly as reer Bari, and at times as Reer Koonfur. No one has ever referred to Berbera as galbeed. If anything reer Galbeed in northern circles refers to the Samaroon and HA who live west of Hargeisa.

Reer Waqooyi has always only really referred to people who live roughly in what is Somaliland today.

Eastern Landers (Eastern HY,HJ,Hartis,Fiqishini,Magaadle) are considered Reer Bari and have a different dialect from us reer Huuno Western Landers (Gabiley,Awdal)
