That's crazy. Ive noticed clans that were anti colonialist like Dhulbahante and Biimaal for example lost a lot of numbers. Biimaal went from a powerful clan to losing that great power same as Dhulbahante. Maybe because of the losses they took fighting the colonisers.

I respect clans that were anti colonial. It's sad post colonialism the power went to the clans that were dhabo dhilif to the colonials and the clans that fought colonials got sidelined.

Biimaal was another group who fought colonialists they lost a lot of people that 200k number lost in the north is crazy though that was a serious depopulation of the region there would’ve been millions more people there today @Man with a garuun @Cartan Boos come in give your thoughts on these numbers

It's my belief Bimaal and other Dir (Surre) were the largest clans in the South and current day DDS before European intervention, their numbers were decimated by the Oromo expansion and further declined when Hawiye joined the Colonial powers against them, amazing how a landheer clan became langaab like that.

Rx were clearly the biggest in the south

Its well known that Dhulbuhante lost like 50% of their population that time

They were largest clan in Waqooyi by far
I heard that as well from a family friend that they were the largest group in the north the demographics of Somalia would be different today if the dervish wars never happend

This is why Somalis need to fight as 1 ethnic group, had we done that then the deaths would be diverse so whole tribes wouldn't die

They all died because of Sayid Maxamed Cabdullaahi Xasan fierce brutal military campaign in Nugaal Valley and in the Hawd

Finally, in 1912, the Mullah himself became active, and raided the Dolbahanta tribe so effectively that they were reduced to starvation, and came in large parties to the coast towns begging the Government to give them food. Then it was realised that the policy of non-intervention in the interior was not altogether satisfactory, and that something must be done to remedy the anarchic condition of the country.

Baron Ismay in his intelligence report on the Dervish raids on the Ali Gheri and the Dolbahanta clan's of Bohotle notes:

No important move was made till November 1911, when he successfully attacked the Ali Gheri at Bohotleh. He followed this up in February 1912 with an attack on the Dolbahanta at Eildab, In this engagement our people lost all their stock and were reduced to starvation. They flocked to Berbera demanding to be supported. Yet another attack on Bohotleh in March resulted in the remaining Dolbahanta in that vicinity being looted and driven out. Bohotleh remained in Dervish hands.

British colonial administrator Sir Douglas Jardine describing the plight of the Dhulbahante noted:

The most pitiful lot of all fell to certain sections of the Dolbahanta. Ousted from their ancestral grazing grounds by the Mullah's advance and bereft of all their stock, the remnants wandered like veritable Ishmaelites in the Ishaak country, deprived of Asylum and almost all access to the coast.

Probably took part in few numbers but lost to history since we weren’t major clan partaking . Census data and maps show small numbers for us in what is now puntland and jubbaland

How come Ogaden didn’t lose numbers? We were definitely sidelined and the British did not like us.

Cuz the Sayid didn't go on raiding his fellow kinsmen territory as the wars were mostly in Nugaal valley and Hawd the places were the Dervish state was established

Who did Geladi Sultunate defeat to take the crown in the South? Bimaal...
The Geledi, Silcis and Hiraab Imamate all splintered off from the Ajuuraan who were in their last days during the colonial period having ruled the south and central of Somalia since the 13th century.
