In any city in America, the average people should be able to avoid it. Every thing in NYC is just too expensive. Mamdani just tapped into the anger and the pain of the average people in NYC.
Besides, imagine the mayoral candidate of a city who was constantly asked if he was loyal to a foreign nation, and when he said no, they haunted him and constantly demanded his loyalty to that foreign nation. Well, the genocide in Gaza has changed America, and the people in NYC agreed with Mamdani that his focus should be NYC residents and not some genocide-committing foreign nation.
How things will turn out in 4 years remains to be seen.
