It was popularized by a famous Syrian journalist/ TV show host Faisal Al Qasimi this fat MF kept repeating this concept on Al Jazzera until it become widespread in the Arab world. الصوملة "Somalizstion" is a term used to describe a failed state that its international borders are still intact but the state has crumbled from within and turned into several autonomous regions that lacks order, cohesion and unity. Often times coupled with اللادولة
Somali in Arab world is colloquially used as the butt of all jokes and carries negative connotations.
Somalis don't care about their image, you need a certain level of caqli to protect your self image and think about the consequences of your actions. Think Barkhad Abdi and those Somali actors playing Pirates in that film, which further pushed our already faltering image into the dirt, we only have ourselves to blame.

They do not use terms like العرقنة، اللبنة او السورنة (Arabic equivalent of الصوملة) but they sure love to recycle الصوملة into the Arab mainstream media.
Most of the time they put Iraq next to Somalia our situation is the closest with them but you rarely see Iraqis get ridiculed on Arab social media like Somalis. It also does not help we have a group of active and vocal jobless teens/young men on social media hellbent on embarrassing Somalis with their qabyalad, racism and spread of degenerate content.

because lebanon recovered. and iraq was destroyed by foreign invasion. somalia was in continuous war and is now in a frozen comflict all for a whole generation 30 years. somalification is real.
Iraq, Syria, Libya and Yemen are still in more or less state of war. Somalia arguably is better off than these countries yet you won't find "creative" concepts aimed at mocking these countries like they do with Somalia. The worst they could say is attribute the blame to Iran/Shia/Majoos but never to the people of that country.

I said it made it worse, countries spend billions on their global image, South Korea being a notable example, Somalia had excellent Public relations before the civil war.
Which ties into my point, Somalis don't think about these kinds of things and how they impact them. And what did you expect from Arabs? They're also in the gutter, they need to punch down so they can feel better about themselves. If Africans were to disappear, these people would be the world's 'blacks', and believe me, they're aware of this.
