Not just Amhara but many other Semitic speakers who were formerly Muslim. Everything from Silt'e/Gurage zones to Harar was once inhabited by Muslim Semitic speakers. The Oromo cawaan committed genocide against these peoples.

It doesn't work with somalis somehow, there are couple of qabiils assimilated to oromos but didn't forget their lineage

Constant small scale night raids, killing farmers in their fields and escaping by horse, using emasculation as a terror tactic etc...

The Oromo were good horsemen who used long lances and charges, and had large populations from the beginning. It was very hard to fight them if you were divided into small sultanates.
