Theres nothing wrong with desiring more than one wife.Albeit not common, but why do you believe that one should not set four wives as their aim whereby they are legally allowed.I get the point. No one should set out four wives as their aim.
I don’t think Prophet Muhammad SAW set out to have four wives from the beginning when he married Khadija but got married when circumstances dictated it.
You marry a second wife because you need to not because you want to.

As always, valuable insights givenMy opinion:
Polygamy is perfectly fine as Allah has made it halal.
My concerns:
-Polygamy is a privilege, rather than a right. The majority of men don't have that 'right' especially the young on this forum. You don't even have the requirements to be in a polygamous marriage.
-The vast majority of Polygamous marriages I have seen aren't conducted in a halal way. Usually, the wife is back in Somalia and the husband visits her two months in a year. That goes against her Sharia rights. Also, finances is a huge problem. This is a generation that don't want to spend on women and cry about mehr, yet their vocal about their 'rights' to polygamy.
-Men are obsessed with forcing their opinions down women's throats. Women have every right to put polygamy clauses in their marriage contracts.
To conclude:
But apart from that, polygamy is something the Prophet s.a.w and the Sahabas have engaged in. We can't make the halal haram, nor can we act like every man has a 'right' to or that women can't have choices.
how can he label someone exercising an islamic right as having "something functionally wrong with them"
He has the right to ask a valid question. Is 4 Wives necessary even if Islam tells you its Okey? People usually run for the loophole but never read fine prints. The fine prints are : Are you able to cater to your 4 wives equally-or risk Jahanaam ?
Surah Nisa says that we will not be fair to our parents wives.
huh? What does the parents in law have to do with this debate?????
Typo meant wives.
Oh i see. Can you post the exact quote for my interpretations?

And you will never be able to be just between wives, even if you should strive, so do not incline too much to one of them so as to leave the other hanging, and if you reconcile and have piety, then surely Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Surah Nisa verse 129.
