Let's be honest, the majority Somali parents don't stress the importance of education. Why? Because they are clueless (recent refugees). They are clueless about the new country they're in and their minds are in Somalia. The way they came here was through civil war, and that did a number on Somalis.

The morale of the people was broken. But like you said when they are qaan gaadh they need to get their shidh together and go to school and help their parents out of the struggle. My mother had me at 19, when she came here she was 19 and knew very little English. She learned English until she got her GED and eventually her degree. That inspired me a lot and I remind younger my siblings of that every day.

We need to stop blaming the parents because a 20 year old should really know better. Yes some mums baby their boys but they have brains of their own too.

It's not pointless first of all. Like I said earlier the morale for Somalis is low. It's on us, the new generation, to oust this harmful thinking and put an importance on education. Somali engineers, doctors, lawyers, mechanics, therapists, teachers etc have to go back and train people back home so that we are building the next generation to compete with the rest of the world. Give them jobs, help boost the economy, build infrastructure, teach them skills, and oust the corrupted idiots who are the reason Somalia is messed up today.

I've been to several countries in Europe and it's the complete opposite, their governments pump money into their parks to make it fun and recreational for children whereas here in the UK just walking through one every morning will give you crippling depression. Religion might be good for morale, however what's the use in spending hours memorising an ancient text that they can't even understand and will forget the minute they leave dugsi. Instead those hours should be spent doing something more productive.

I would love to but the people in Somalia are far cry to be ushered into 21st century, Living a perpetual purgatory lifestyle of a 7th century dessert Bedouin.
