I assume this is a response to my thread.
Trust me I'm well aware of how racism works, people that don't like certain communities probably would've never liked them. And as black muslim refugees who've dealt with one of the worst humanitarian crisis's in the modern era, people will always be racist to us, more so than many other groups.
But I truly do not think you people understand how much the specific baggage that we're dealing with comes directly from problems of our own creation.
now let me say this, I'm not sayin "We make people racist towards us". People who are racist will always be racist. But large swathes of discussions around us only have validity because somalis wake up everyday and decide to make up brand new problems via the internet.
Across every statistical metric Somalis have only massively improved over time since we migrated to the west. We are a very young diaspora due to the fact that our parents had multiple kids in the 90s-2000s and we're only just now becoming adults. This skewers statistics as the only ones old enough to participate in work are the older refugee generation who do menial jobs.
My point is, all of the "legitimate" issues a new community should face, somalis are doing quite well and are consistently imroving, the young generation does excellent in school and when we're old enough we'll progress in the work force too.
Every issue I see discussed on this sub more or less comes from our perception via stereotypes we created online. From debates regarding our racial identity, to debates regarding qabilism in this new election. These problems are of our own making. Nobody cares about these issues other than a select few, and we decide to take it to the moon and back for no reason.
This isn't even unique to somalis, it's how the internet works in general, algorithms push for insanity. but we have the ability to stop it so long as we're normal. but we just don't we're a community dedicated to pushing our own problems and quite literally making up new ones
