listen I understand yall concern but why are yall acting like the Somali reputation was sunshine and roses before social media?

like deadass even people in countries that don’t speak english clowning on Somalis, (it’s unfortunate but this is just evidence the source of the bad reputation isn’t Somali ‘tiktokkers’), like the Koreans made a whole ass movie “escape from Mogadishu” it was their top movie that year btw…

My point is that even if all Somalis COLLECTIVELY STOPPED POSTING on social media this very INSTANT…. the “reputation” wouldn’t be get any better because “the reputation” is a reflection of how the country is doing and that’s just the fucking truth

Like this mf in rural China he don’t even speak English and he know about somali pirates. my point is u can’t try to control the narrative via tiktok and social media we can only try to CHANGE IT by focusing on improving somalia as a country and righting the positive aspects of the culture and people

Piracy and 1991 were major events that caught global attention for understandable reasons.

A few thousand being engaged in online tribal bickering, or FGS law proposals or any of the small discourses on Somali social media absolutely do not deserve that level of visibility and that attention is almost entirely drawn by the diasporas yap about this on tiktok.

I mean two things can be true at once, it is true that Somali behaviour on the internet does have a negative affect on our reputation, alot of things people use to insult Somalis comes from ourselves like that Korean guy who pulled up pictures of oromo men and said our eyes look soulless or smth, the only reason he ( and alot of other people) think that they're somali is because Somalis were posting it for fkd. @Einar68 's thread is correct, but you're also right when you say our negative reputation is also tied to the state of our country and movies like black hawk down. you got it perfect somalia can never be the next “India” we absolutely do not have that population size plus also Indians are ridiculed a lot because they are very religiously and culturally alienated from others.
