We need to be more open about mental health and willing to seek help, some of it is probably due to fear of what they might do to their children/relatives. I've heard that there are plenty of mental people in our community and they need help

Lord knows where I would've been without the regular ass beatings. I was just impulsive and had no sense as a kid so some sense had to be beaten in my system

Alhamdulillah for that

Abuse is real and strife within the community, the suun will traumatise the child as he grows up. He may even become rebellious and be the least of your exaggerated expectations.
There are other methods of disciplining a mischievous child and physical harm is not involved.

I think it depends on how you beat em, too much for children is not good but doing it sometimes but not very hard is what I'd like to think is okay (though for me personally I'd rather talk and engage with my future kids about their actions and have a meaningful discussion instead of whipping them like there's no tomorrow)

Funny thing is my pops never laid his hands on me. It was always my mom. Mostly because I enjoyed shoplifting from shops every time I was sent there to get some milk.
Pockets full of candy.

I used to get told on by other kids who got busted by their parents. Their mom calls my mom and you know what comes next. I learnt early the effects of snitching.

it took me years for me to finally open up to my parents about my suicidal ideation and self-harm due to the stigma surrounding mental health. it was only after my 1st suicide attempt that i managed to let my parents know about it. my parents were luckily v supportive and gave me all the support i needed but i know that that's not true for everyone. mental health is serious and i wish that somalis took it more seriously
