At its foundation, the party had 13 members: four muuse subeer samaroon , four habar muuse two Reer Xamar, two hawiye and one daarood
those clan were the clans of the founders of SYL,majeertania was a part of somalia and competent president like sharmarke were ok but to say mj created somalia is a joke
4 Samaroon members of the SYL? Someone has been running a train wreck on Wikipedia
SYL was founded by 13 men with the majority of them coming from the Banadiri community actually. It only became popular and accepted when Abdullahi Issa ran the show. He took the case to the UN and to the rest of the World.
Ofcourse, it's not a suprise that many supporters were from the Darod, they saw it as the only party to grant them a living in Mogadishu as it was pro centralism and pro Somaliweyn. Raxanweyn casted their votes for the HDSM which was pro federalism and Hawiyah votes were split between SYL (led by Abdullahi Issa), SANU (led by Edmundo an Cayr politician AUN) and the Liberal Party founded by Xaaji Baraako, who almost won the Mogadishu seat but lost by a narrow margin to another Abgaal.
But all was well, we were the powerful inner circle that ran the show. Sacad alone had 2 members in the 15 member SYL central committee as well as the Party Chairman and Vice Chairman and the UN Representative (Xaaji Faarax). There is a reason they called us Governo Sacad. We lead, the rest follow.
Even after Independence, the country was still in good hands and honest leadership, 1961 literally saw two men from Beledweyne compete for the Presidency
Unfortunately, corruption became rife after the '67 elections and didn't stop until 1991. I'll let you figure out why.
