Would the Middle East have been in a better state?

If the Turks still ruled over it. It's one of those fascinating "what ifs?" in History.

Some countries and continent have had a slower progress due to climate, geography and ethnic diversity. The middle east, whether or not colonized, would still be in their current position. In fact I think colonization might have helped them considering some of their countries benefited from the British empire. Anyways I'm not well versed in the Ottoman empire I'll have to read more about it.

The Ottoman Empire was undergoing democratic reforms to become more of a Constitutional Monarchy similar to Great Britain during it's declining period. If they were successful and all nationalities were able to live peacefully I think that the middle east would be more stable.

Plus with all the oil revenue concentrated in one state the Ottomans would most likely be a global superpower now.
