Worst mistake Farmajo ever did, not accepting de jure control of Socotora.

On the list of mistakes made by Farmajo, I believe that this particular decision stands out as the most significant.

The island is intriguing, even though it is not inhabited by our ethnic kin and has a low population. What I think this small island does is disturb the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of one of our most productive stretches of coastline.

I would argue that the opportunity was a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, and the UAE has now taken control and de facto annexed the place. If Farmajo had been astute, he could have annexed it or one of its smallerand offered it to Puntland to tax and administrate is as a gesture of goodwill.

Morally, I can fully understand his choice. From a point-of-view of cold hard geopolitics, it was a bad choice.

We could've used it as a chip, and have Yemen concede one of the smaller uninhabited island and still would've increased our EEZ by thousand of square kilometers without taking on the burden of administrating a non-Somali people.

Island are powerful economic and geopolitical tools. Missing out on gaining the right Island can cut you out of billions of lost revenue and a weak leg to stand on against neighbouring nations. Do not forgot, our Yemeni "brothers" gladly took the Derg-led Ethiopias side against fellow muslims Somalis.

we already have plenty of beautiful lands brother, we don’t need to forcefully annex anyone, we should instead form close mutually beneficial ties with the natives of those islands :)

Your right, I would never advocate for an invasion or forced annexation, but if we have the change to gain territory with borderline zero effort, it's a mistake not to claim it.

We somalis should be the last people to invade lands that don't believe by to us since we understand that pain better. That island is beautiful though and very tempting tbh so I understand what you're saying

I guarantee you if these Somali politicians across the peninsula had a brain reset where they all had the same objective, not only would Somalia be the top dog militarily but economically we could purchase those islands for tens of billions of dollars and Yemen would concede.

LOL miskeens in here saying "we already have beautiful land", "we shouldn't annex others lands" and other weak, Weakling shit.

This is dog eat dog world and because we somalis didn't annex an island right next to our borders ajaanibs from the otherside of the world, have decided to take the opportunity you couldn't.

You do realize that dajjal is said to be their and UAE and Israel control that island right.

This is so wrong, Socotra doesn't and didn't belong to us. Beside that, FGS didn't control must of the south, why he'd infringe on other nation's territories?

This world is ruled by international law, you can do moves like annexing land without impunity even if you are a superpower.

Total Bs. That doesn't stop Russia, Azerbaijan, and even Ethiopia from trying to annex others. there is no International Law.

UAE currently runs the Island. Somalis could annex the Island without war.

Farmajo and Somalia don’t have the resources or fighting power to annex Socotora

Someone with a brain... Oh we already have beautiful lands thats a cucked mindset right there.
It is why I used the term de jure. Having a claim on Socotra could be very valueable in the future. A bargaining chip we might very well need to use one day.
Precisely spoken, big mistake to not fully annex

For real man, the best time to annex it would be during a time where bigger news is happening. If the island was annexed during the height of the russian-ukranian war, the news would be buried in a week.

Let’s be honest , Somalis have no claim on Socotra. The only tribe in Somalia that has a legitimate claim on the island are the Meheri people.
