I think it starts in the home people don't just say these things out of nowhere. There's a real self esteem issue at hand where they hold two opposing thoughts at the same time thinking they're completely logical.

To be honest, I never heard these things. It was only when I got into contact with other people that I noticed this obsession with race and color. When I went back to Hargeisa in 2016 I was shocked by the obsession with Hindi films and women had weird eyebrows like hairy Indians. And they'd talk about if you marry so and so you'll have light kids. I was thinking but bish you are uglier than spoiled soor.

Luckily when I grew up I never heard about color and stuff. My family only used to talk about whether you were fat, chubby, short, or had an ugly nose.

I think we should ban filim-hindiga iyo xayeysiska naagaha cadcad ka buuxaan.

It's bleaching and beauty creams are imported directly from UAE to Somaliland. It's not as big of a problem, it's a big problem but there isn't a big business behind it in Puntland because the culture is different if that makes sense.
