Theres also those kids that haven't stepped foot back home but speak like the older generation. I know people that did 4/5 year stints back home but lost it all a few years later due to lack of practice. It all starts in the home.

pretty much. 99 percent of useless somalis who cant speak their language speak something else at home.

My kids speak only somali at home. We don't let them speak English at home so thats how they learned Somali. We read Somali stories and we even translate english books into. A while back, I have visited a relative of mine and a girl who was staying with them was surprised how well my kids spoke Somali. She asked me if they were born in somalia or came from Somalia recently.

I found a few online sis. You can find the popular children's books that kids are exposed to in nursery/school translated into af-Somali.

The ones I have are picture books - colours, fruits etc. He is still too young for the toddler books.

But we do need more Somali authors to produce books for Somali children.

All I have at home are wiil waal lol I am looking eagerly for Somali children's books.

If not and it's important to you what do you plan on doing - trips to the motherland? Keeping them around grandparents ? ...etc

No, dable is a derogatory term in our dialect but was historically used for qof xaabada kasoo qaadi jiray miyiiga, someone that went out to collect firewood was often called dable, but now in the colloquial it's a derogatory word.

And I will not name them Somali names but they will retain a Somali surname to indicate their cultural heritage like East Asians.
