Will The MOU with Ethiopia Make Berbera Port Obsolete ??

As your resident SomalilandFanatic, I have been wondering if the MOU with Ethiopia is implemented and they build their own Commercial port as well as Naval port.

What happens to Berbera port ?

Will it become redundant ?

The Berbera port and the other port in Djibouti will both become redundant. For instance, if was a car dealership and I alone could get a car from Toyota Manufacture Planet. You were my biggest customer, but one day, you'd ask if I could give you the contact information for Toyota plant vehicle distributors, and let's say I gave all the information required for you to get a car for my price. Then why would you have to deal with me anymore? This is a situation that can develop on a small scale. There are other clauses that are in the mou that can affect total Somalia's mineral resources, which are oil, gas, and fisheries.Ethiopia doesn't want the port. It also wants the large segment of Awdal state. This will create a rift between the Hargesia and Awdal states. This will open up more problems for Somaliland. What if they say, "You know what? We want all of Awdal State and Hargesia". Who is going to stop them? Because on an international front, Somaliland takes the stance that we aren't a part of Somalia. If the total population in Somaliland is 3.5 million and Ethiopia is 100 million, I want you to understand Ethiopia is a colonalist. They had already stolen the Ogadan region in Somalia. Yes, we in Somalia fight each other, but no one takes someone's land from them.
Just understand if Ethiopia gets what it wants, there will be no Somalia or Somaliland to argue over. Ethiopia want to become the oil distributor of Somalia oil they are lying to Somaliland. That oil and gas is worth trillions of dollars and ethiopia is hungry and Muse is desperate .

Somaliland is either a sovereign state or part of Somalia. Either way annexation can't just happen. Very few nations get to steal oil in this world and Ethiopia isn't one of them.

Won't happen. They already have enough trouble trying to drill for oil in K5 because the locals cause trouble for them there. Awdal isn't going to sit around and do nothing while their land is being exploited.

Just curious are any of you guys from Somaliland or have relatives from there, because I really want to know what was told to them about the Mou ? or even what is this fascination with the Ethiopia? What hold does it have in them?

Lol Iโ€™m from Awdal we made so many protests their plan was to give saylac or lughaya to Ethiopia but they had to change the locations to outside Awdal but itโ€™s still too close to my liking but majority isaaq love it

Are these truly issaq or are the Oromo that just learn af Somalia and just take there qabil name? Because a lot of people say Muse Hooyo was Oromo.

I am starting to think, if this MOU deal goes through Isaaq as a tribe will become a non factor.

As Ethiopia will have a monopoly on Violence, therefore they can make the laws and decide who should be in power for their benefit.

Then they will go ahead and build their own commercial port and no one will be able to stop them.

Also, once they set up a base and decide to take more land, who will stop them ?

Is this deal even legally binding ?

Which international court will side with a State (Ethiopia) over a non state (Somaliland) if there comes a dispute ?

Djibouti evicted DP World in 2018, UAE as a result wanted revenge on a scale where the ports of Djibouti would become utterly obsolete by 2030. They proposed making Berbera the number one port for Ethiopia (nothing wrong with that), the latter country, with its wounded pride and insecurity about being a permanent landlocked country, however, came up with the farfetched idea for a naval base stretching 21km, which in theory could also host multiple foreign bases, and since this would be another nail in Djiboutiโ€™s coffin, the UAE agreed.

However, they didnโ€™t anticipate the local backlash, or HSMโ€™s diplomatic resistance to the deal, nor the regional and international fallout. Hence the rift in relations between IOG and Abiy, hence why the US is fully backing Somaliaโ€™s return as a viable military power, why France has cancelled the naval cooperation deal with Ethiopia, why NATO has not opposed the Somali-Turkish Defense pact, why the UAEโ€™s main team in Somalia was assassinated, and why HSM has placed all of his eggs in the Qatari basket.

Tectonic plates of Somali politics are shifting and realigning. Its amusing to think that Somaliland might be the reason why Somalia could become one of the most successful countries in Africa in the next decades in terms of economics and military. They kickstarted something that wouldnโ€™t have come from HSM organically.

I propose a statue of mudane Muse Bixi in downtown Mogadishu in 2032.

Why didnยดt the FGS propose a counter deal for Ethiopia ? Giving them shares in Mogadishu Port and even geographically ther biggest import partners are China and India they would avoid all the shanenigans going on in the read sea. The only thing they have to do is build a connection from Mogadishu to Adis (prefferably a railway that we could utilize when we start our railway programm)

They already have a port deal with Kenya that they are yet to use. Theyโ€™re only attempting the land grab in awdal because itโ€™s their final chance at gaining access to our coast before Somalia regains her strength. Look at how the oromia region has been encroaching deeper and deeper into Somali inhabited territory and now theyโ€™re now in the final stretch. They miscalculated with the MOU as a BRICS member, The world powers are opposed to it and they have the means of preventing it as they have with the oil fields in the galbeed.

Seems right, this is a recent press release by the United States.

However, the United States is concerned about a recent Memorandum of Understanding between Ethiopia and the breakaway and internationally unrecognized state of Somaliland that would give land-locked Ethiopia access to the Gulf of Aden. In exchange, Ethiopia would recognize Somaliland as an independent state.

The United States is concerned about โ€œpotentially destabilizing implications of the MOU ... without the consent of the Federal Government of Somalia,โ€ said Ambassador Wood.

โ€œThe United States joins the A.U. [African Union] and other international partners in reiterating our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia and urging diplomatic dialog to de-escalate tensions. It is vital that this issue does not distract from critical state building challenges that remain in Somalia.โ€

The United States commends Somalia on its successes in its fight against the al-Shabab terrorist group. โ€œThe United States is committed to pursuing the designation of individuals and entities in the al-Shabab Sanctions Committee,โ€ said Ambassador Wood, โ€œand [we] urge member states to join us in this process.โ€

DP world is on Phase 2 which is under construction, is another 400metre quay extension making it a total of 1450m when all complete (650m original port and 800m DP world extension in 2 phases). Highly doubt emirates would invest this much into it esp when uae and ethiopia are working together

Ask yourself this ;

1. When Ethiopia gets its own port, why would they be incentivised to use Berbera ??

2. Who will the Berbera port service ? Hargeisa and Burco ? Because Puntland and Djibouti have their own ports.

3. What happens to Somaliland once Berbera as a port city becomes obsolete ??

4. What happens to Somaliland once it losses all its leverage on Ethiopia !!!

4. Would it not be more shrewd to make that 100 million people nation dependant on Berbera port ??

This MOU is irrational hence why I have joined the Birmade HSM camp.

You have realize one thing its in negotiation right now and we don't know exactly what is going come off from the MOU.

But right now all we know is that Ethiopia wants its own commercial port but SL is saying navy base only with berbera being used for commercial so its all being negotiated.

Your missing my point

1. If and when they get a Naval port (military base), who is going to stop them building their own commercial port ?

2. What is going to stop them taking more land forcefully ?? (I personally think they want Ceel-Sheekh all the way to the Djibouti border (including Saylac).

3. If they violate the terms of an agreement, who is going to stop them ? and how ?

Answer me please, because I feel this is an irrational move on Somaliland's part and can render us irrelevant.
