You're right. The people currently in power are some of the most untrustworthy, I wouldn't trust them not to kill a visionary leader for a bribe. It's unfortunate but I think we'll have to wait till this generation is dead till we get someone worthwhile. Best we can do in the meantime is ensure the education of the next generation. A educated class is less likely to fall into the trap of our current administration.

I think the instability can be a curse and a blessing because if we were in a bureaucratic hellhole like China, it would be over, but the government doesn't have 100% of the monolopy on violence, and you can self-govern to a certain extent.
